'rsmillbern' wrote: "An anonymous rant does nothing, in my opinion." Permit me to disagree: this one was great fun! And despite being removed by the o.p. (suggesting it was not a comically misspelled troll), kept going a while on its own merits. Did anyone notice the posting locations? People in Idaho are reading this? At Pilot there have been retirees et alia who make a project of delittering the trails. I have had a minor subhobby of mentally noting the most remote and oldest trash along the way. The funniest object imo noticed so far was not a geologically deposited seashell released from what was a former sand seabed: it was a large glue-on fingernail. Had they been applied to function like crampons? There is, and will be, trash left by those who are trash. But surely, not any of "us"? ll

Gasp! Surely not! It's the day hikers who toss their athletic tape, mass gangs of camp children who drop their cigarette butts and tourists who so callously discard their Clifbar wrappers. Climbers never litter.

'Toproper87' is one of my favorite climbers at Pilot Mtn., as of today, and not because he belayed me. He is a good climber, very helpful and generous to others, and very safety-conscious with all aspects of climbing. There were two women hiking by, and he even offered his climbing shoes to make sure they both tried the climb he had rigged. He explained his concerns that led to that post, and it was a lot worse than just trash. It was a busload of wuffos generally out of control all over place, creating a serious hazard to climbers. There isn't an official way for him to express his distress, so he posted among what could be expected to be friends. He also removed the post: reposting it as a reply does not have to happen for a reply, and imo offends net ethics as much as netiquette. If you are ever at Pilot, and recognize Charles from his posted photo, as I did today, do make a point of saying hello. You won't find anybody there more worth at least getting acquainted with. LL

There's little doubt that he's a good climber. Five days a week and he sure as hell isn't at school the other two. Good for him for having a proficient e-backer such as yourself and concern for 'his ' mountain.

LL RC.com has its own culture, including the way in which new posters are greeted. There really is far less hate than most first time posters think they get. It is, for the most part, just people who think they are funny trying to be funny. If you post here for a while, and I hope you do, you will learn why capturing posts in replies is necessary. Complain if you want, but all that will happen is more posts of people trying to be funny.

in the long run it is probably better that he got on here and did his rant to vent. otherwise he might have gone balistic in person on the offenders. We all know that a polite discussion with someone can accomplish more than a pissed off ass chewing from someone no matter how true the message is |
