Wondered what others think of it. Saw it Friday 3D. Loved it. Hard to just call it CG and effects. It's ART. Beautiful. The story is decent. Not an earthshattering new plot by any means but an oldie and goodie.

The only drawback would be there is no big compelling personality that shows up in the acting. the actors are good, engaging but it ain't Robert Downy Jr in ironman.

definately one i'll see again before it's gone in 3D.. so much going on.. some cool climbing too. absolutely stunning visual art.

I thought Stephen Lang was perfect for the ass kicking Sargent role, the rest of the acting was passable. Good movie though. Not great, but better than most of the CGI heavy films that have been coming out lately (IE: King Kong, Indiana Jones 4, Transformers 2). The 3D didn't bother my eyes as much as I expected it to, but I saw it at a non-IMAX theater and sat near the back.

Just got home from it (3D). Fantastic!

Liked the story (good, nothing groundbreaking, but with enough uncertainty to keep it fresh). Loved the visuals. And, I think the best CGI fight scenes I have seen.

My eyes felt a little strained from the 3d - that could be because we were well off to the side. My son had no trouble with the separation distance of the 3d. Oh, and very very little 3d for 3d's sake. Most of the time it was just there, and occaisonally I'd say - "that's nice!"

Acting was good - true no totally magnetic actors, but not sure how well they would have come through the motion capture anyway.

One of the things that struck me was how seamlessly I had ignored the differences in scale until it was suddenly apparent.
The linking of the people was really moving.

All in all, I really liked it - and definitely recommend it.

Fucking magnificent!

I don't begrudge them playing it safe with the story because they were breaking ground and taking risks on so many other fronts. I just assumed it was all hype but the new technology and techniques that they brought to the 3D process are indeed game changing. Very, very well done.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. No big disagreements with anything said above. I don't think I'll pay to see it again, but I'm certainly happy I did once.

Can't say I've actually ever seen one. But I'd assume if they're so desperate that they're taking a camcorder into a movie theater that they're probably also too lazy to get there early to get a good seat.

FTR: Saw Avatar, agree with most of what people have said here. Worth the money to see it on IMAX. Hell of an experience.

Visually and technically fantastic, a great effort to create very nice world and 3D effects.
A pity that they didn't put one tenth of that effort in creating a novel and interesting plot. The movie gives the feeling of already-seen after 10 minutes of watching.
Kevin Kostner should get some royalties for the plot.

I found it amusing that Cameron talks about how he's had this practically written for over 10 years and he's just been waiting for technology to catch up. It's a shame he didn't read through it any time in those 10 years and add something original.

Just my two cents, the effects were cool but the film was a cross between Thundercats and the Smurfs. Guess I'm too old for this crap.

Why the hell would they have chosen yellow papyrus as the font for the subtitles? Terrible decision.

If so I think you give people in general too little credit while at the same time give yourself way too much.

I made you a new butthurtz avatar, since you seem to get a hurt buttz often

You made my eyes a bit too small and I don't have any crows feet, yet. Other than that It's pretty spot on with the bruised tailbone I suffered yesterday. If you wouldn't mind adding a couple screws in my left shouder it will be perfect. Wink

Oh and Butthurtz, no. Annoyed by idiots overflowing with self rightousness, yup.

I mean we can't all be like you AB . . . wait a minute, you to get butthurtz more than anyone here. Oh well, someday I'll be arrogant as you and all will be good.

You're pretty close, don't worry.

Maybe you're so butthurt because I criticized something you liked, and finally understood. After all it was "the oldest and easies to understand topic in the history of the world".

Are you drunk when you type or just that bad at written communication?

Give the poor guy a break, he's from fricken Min-neh-soooo-da, donchaknow.

OH.Blush Sorry. No, I didn't know. My fault.

Actually I've never seen the movie so I don't have an opinion on it one way or the other. Nice try though, maybe next time you won't make the assumption that you're more intelligent that others.

Nope, I simply can't spell and run spell-check through MS word. I got a new computer a few days ago and apparently the standard editing settings are to automatically correct any misspelled words without informing you of the change. Oh don’t get me wrong, I’ll still suck at spelling despite the software but I figured you’re just poking on this because you have nowhere else to go and desperately need something to fire back with.

So what's your excuse? Are you suffering from some type mental disorder or do simply have such low self esteem that you half to act like a jackass to feel important?

Yup, you betcha'! Could be worse, I could be in Nebraska.

You gonna' get busy on that avatar rendering for me? I mean it's not like you have anything better to do.

No excuse. I thought I'd see how far I could antagonize you.

You really can't blame him.
