I believe you are right about the shoes but I don't think that his danglies are superfluous. If you look closely you will notice that his chalk bag is connected to his gear loop (non-rated I might add) with what looks like an old doval biner (not locking). I believe that the dangly is a backup line to save his chalk bag from ground fall in case his gear loop blows or a case of gate flutter attacks his biner. Thankfully it appears that he has connected this to his leg loop just in case shit really hits the fan.

yeah, but he "watermarks" all his photos. and they all are reasonably done top rope pictures that barely resemble climbing photography.

it just so happens i post this picture of a route i tried, so people could see what part of the climb looks like. Not going for photo of the year or anything, and footloose... sorry my friend forgot to break out the spectrometer during a casual day of climbing. At least its not from 50 ft. away on a disposable camera

Check. What is that dangly thing by his chalk bag? Is that a chalk bag loop? I know he is top roping, but I would be afraid I would catch my something in that and trip.

The Luzzone dam, in Switzerland. Not quite 1000 feet, but 720 feet of plastic-pulling is still a fair bit.

Not that I'd make a trip out of it, but if it was in my backyard it sure beats a 24ft gym.
