Well, he lives in SLO. the maculated was going to do an updated slo guide a few years ago, since slater's original was way out of date. She asked him if it would be cool, and I guess he kinda freaked and said no, and started updating his guide right away. Kristin said he was kind of mean and kept saying 'I have to think about my son' or something like that.

Yes, I'm going a short ways out on a fat sturdy limb and saying doing ID with a 60 is less gnartarded than using a single belay locker as your dogging draw. I noes, it might be hard to believe... but before there were 70m... or even 60m ropes, there were 50m ropes. Sum how hundreds if knot thousands, including myself, managed to do ID without teh conveince bolts, belay devices or long ropes. I'm just saying. First rope I bought was a 50m. I think the salesman was psyched to get rid of it finally. The first three ropes I owned were 50's. Very few ropes came in 60m at the time. That changed pretty quick. I had taken out of retirement won of my early 45m x 11mm+ ropes and had been using it at teh Old New as a werk rope... I left it out there stashed when I moved on to teh Way New. Always figured I'd dig it out when I went back.... sadly, now that the area is burned down, I'm guessing it burned up also... along with several other ropes, won of my early yo hammers and a bunch of other gearz. Never gots to say gud bye. So sad.... Ewe should go back owt there, exhume them, pay your respects and then sell them on Ebay Well, I wood go back owt there, to climb even, since teh WNSG is underwater rite nau and teh wether wood be perfect.... cept teh fuking forest is still closed. $5,000 fine if ewe enter teh burned areas. Teh incompetent FS mismanaged the Station Fire, Failed to put it out when they had a chance... cuz they wanted to save money. And nau 2+ years later, still will knot open teh forest. I was scoping a semi secret spot last summer, and I saw a rope, all coiled up, just sitting on a rock. Well, it was half on, and half hanging over the side. I picked it up. It was stiff and crusty, and didn't change shape when I picked it up, still had an elbow bend where it was bent over the rock. Wonder how long it has been there.

Slater is persistent, he PM'd me a couple times for info on some norkak spots when he was doing that book. I couldn't figure out how he knew I knew, since i told like 2 dudes I took out there. Then I found some really old posts on the Knob where I had asked for info way back when. He searched those and then sent out a PM spray. But I also had some guy PM me 2x a couple years ago asking for directions to Crag X in Utah. I read about it in the mag, but hell if I know. But it does raise the question of why you'd spray about your secret spot in a mag and then still keep it secret.
