I think that actually worked! This was probably the smoothest interview I have ever done (and that include the one that landed me my current job!)
turns out I also know 2 people who work there and at least 1 is in management so I sent them some "help me!" emails

LOL I dunno I was afraid the bow might be a bit much 
the recruiter did call... he said he still needed to talk to the intervewers, but did ask what it would take money wise...
which means... if I do get an offer its time to tell them about my ireland trip... I'm really nervous that it will ruin my opportunity, but it's been in the works a long time and tickets are bought and paid for

I've been in that position before. Don't worry about it. If they want you then they want you. You can't plan your life around a job offer that hasn't been made yet, and they can't expect you do plan your life on a interview that hadn't even been made yet either. As I told my prospective employer, this had been in the works a long time and I was committed. They totally respected the circumstances.
I'm going to continue on the good-luck route and not count the chickens until they're all in the frierlator.

It was nice to get out...but other than that, conditions were pretty crappy.
The Whitney trip was a flop. We stalled at the first creek crossing. Powder snow on talus. The trees were bent down over the trail. We couldn't go under them and couldn't go over them.
We then spent the next two days doing skills. I felt pretty bad for the clients. They flew in from Arkansas.
After that I went up to Bishop and tried Bassin Mountain. Conditions sucked, so I turned around on the second morning.
Then I went to Lee Vining. Looked up directions on Summit Post. The directions tell you to go South. I went South, postholing for 3 hours. I was led on by the ice I was seeing on the cliffs and the thought of "maybe around this corner".
When I got back to the parking lot, there were climbers there. You're supposed to go West.
Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
