Not that it was THAT warm there, but the night time lows were only -10C. I like that kind of winter.

It's 49 in my apartment, and likely to get colder before it gets warmer. The furnace repair guy was here for the fourth time today. Each time he was sure he fixed it (this time included). Still not working. It has been over a week. GO

But I see yore point. closest outside bouldering that is reliably good-weather in winter! if you live at NRG, you can enjoy that occasional crisp Tuesday. But committing to a weekend of driving there in winter is usually dicey. Smae with Coopers.

I was just remembering last night, last year around the same time, on the coldest day we had all winter, the power went out in the middle of the night. And my house was in low 40s by the time the power came back on. This coming sunday, the high is only 6F, with low of -3F... Anyone wants to bet on Murphy's law?

More EC cold tawk. Yesterday, while all teh facespace feeds were blowing up with OG it's so cold here, my crazy ass GF decided to try to kill me by going backcoutnry skiing. There's this cool old run in Northern Mass that was built back in the thirties (by the CCC under the WPA, Gawd bless FDR), which was the site of some of the earliest ski races in the US. Really cool place. Except that when we woke up at 5am to go do it yesterday, I looked at the weather and saw that it was going to be 25 mph winds and a windchill down to around -30, actual temps around 0 (F, nawt C, Canuckians). GF didn't care, she was just like, "we'll put on an extra layer!" Bad drive up there, fortunately the roads were deserted, because the wind was throwing us all around on the icy roads. Horizontal snow, bad visibility. It was a Nor-easter, hopefully we got our everything ready. Getting out to rig up was without a doubt the coldest I'd evar been. Got a tiny bit warmer once we got into the trees and got the cardio up on the hike, but my fingers and toes never thawed out on the 2000 foot climb. The wind had stopped once we got to the top of the mtn, fortunately. But my weakass legs were so trashed from the hike up, and I'd been going so fast because I wanted to stay warm that going down was sketchy; no muscle left to slow me down. I snow plowed a lot, no dignity. The record in the 1930s for the run was 3 mins; it took me about 20 I think. Got back to the car, the sun was out, and we were in a better mood. Cracked some beers because it had gotten up to a balmy 3 degrees. But seriously, I'm fucking sick of being cold awl the thyme.

Heheh, I bet that was payback for that portaledge disaster with dripping ice-melt, that you subjected her to... for her birthday! It is really freaking cold here. And of course, I HAD to leave my thick insulated gloves at the gym last thursday... I checked this weekend, but they weren't in the lost and found. So sad. I got them for free, but still... So, today I wore two pairs of gloves for my walk to work. Of course, my car radiator HAD to pick today to act up again. No leak, I stopped at the car shop on my way... but the antifreeze amount was low somehow. Hopefully it was just a bad seal on the cap. Still, driving this morning, without being able to turn the heat on... ugh! (I tried turning the heat on... what's how I realized that the radiator was probably empty... because the air was coming out icy-cold.) Fortunately it was cold enough (-4F) that the engine didn't really overheat, it was just going towards the red zone when I pulled into the auto shop. My toes took several hours to thaw, after the ride and then the walk to work.

Damn. The winter crags are all too hot here. Greased off the proj Saturday. Spent the next couple days in the gold country. Wine tasting in short sleeves and a mellow camp. I think the only good climbing in the us might be Smith right now.

Everyone who hates winter: bukkaked with Old Man Winter's gigantic load.

Yore gf needs to understand that sometimes it's just too fucking cold to play outside. Nathan and I did get a bit of climbing in on Sat and Mon (long weekend in Canada). Nathan trained on Sunday, and went outside briefly in a t-shirt so we could get a couple of photos of him being outside in the gross cold in a t-shirt, but that was it. I got on the hangboard briefly to try to get my tendons used to hanging onto anything other than icetool jugs again. Even though Saturday and Monday were just unpleasantly cold instead of gross cold (well, Monday was borderline) we were still fucking cold. Only went out for half days in the afternoon. Layered like crazy (puffy pants ftw!). We're not used to this shit right now.
