I jus thought of this in relation to the music thread and the 'most embarrassing moment' thread.

Which groups and/or CDs are you ashamed that you ever liked? I've got two:

-in junior high, I was a die-hard Milli Vanilli fan.

-in high school, I was obsessed with 311. I thought for a long time that their old stuff was great, and that they only got shitty with their newer stuff (a la Metallica). However, I listened to one of their old songs the other day, and was like "DUDE! these guys seriously suckass bigtime! they are a disgrace to white rapper wannabes everywhere!"

***bands that I am NOT ashamed I was obsessed with:
-Metallica. every male 7th-9th grader MUST like Metallica. Regard them with suspicion if they did not.
-Nirvana. I still rock out when I hear them.***

Well, they didn't have CDs then, but Paula Abdul and White Snake.

Also, there was Weird Al Yankovich and Michael Jackson.

The Go-Go's first album (on vinyl)..... I wanted to put it in Belinda Carlisle's chubby little butt. When it comes to embarrassing its hard to top the 80's, although we did have REAL punk rock back then, unlike those poor kids talking about Avail in another thread.

OMG this is good. Well, in my collection right now I can say that I have the Melrose Place soundtrack. That's a reflection of my high school years gone bad... heh.... I also was big into Milli Vanilli back in the day (keep in mind we're back in tape mode now as CD's came out when I was in high school....). Hey, at the time it seemed like a good idea.... ;)
CD I'm not ashamed to have: GnR lies lies lies baby!

well I don't think I have a most embarrassing CD because when I bought it it was cool, and actually all the cds I have now I still listen to, but I di have Michael Bolton during my junior high days. Actually it was the first cd I ever owned.

LOL, I will claim ownership to a Cajun Country CD which is in French and makes you feel like you are listening to the guy off of Waterboy. It has a good beat though. hehe.

So I have an eclectic taste in music, so sue me. :D

I have an album, "yes I never gave them away" of that is nothing but different versions of "walk Like An Egyptian". It has a techno, classic and redux version. If you like the song it is 2 complete album sides.

Abba!!! I LOVE IT!!! The music is not very "state of the art", but IT'S SO ENTERTAINING! so don't piss at them, it's still a good music to have fun on it!

Since this thread first went up, Paul got his PhD, tenure, a genius grant, and a show on NPR called "History Talk."

As well as 'roids and an enlarged prostate, but those are different matters.

I thought for a long time that their old stuff was great, and that they only got s--- with their newer stuff (a la Metallica).

I'm listening to 311 right now... For the most part, I don't think most people listen to them for their lyrics. I actually really like Evolver alot. dl some of the songs from it. agreed that a good majority of their songs from the 311 album and back are whigga

Dave Mathew's latest. I was in Starbuck's and the cute, 20 something barista batted her eyes and my will was broken.

Damn....I hate myself.

I gave the CD away after the first listen.

Billy Ray Cyrus.

Yep. In the fifth grade or so I had a crush on him and his super-mullet.

There’s so much about me to be embarrassed about that singling out one of my many odd tastes in music is quite futile…

For the sake of conversation, I’ll throw out “12 Inches of Snow”…White, Canadian rapper with a Jamaican accent…songs like “Informer”…

Vanilla Ice is a give me…I still have his movie “Cool as Ice”…My best friend and I went so far as to learn and practice one of the dance sequences in the movie…AND we took it to the club.
In hindsight…we were incredibly ghey!!

Let’s see…I listen to a lot of different things…

I still have some Barry Manilow, Enya, and Yanni floating around.

I like gangsta rap, hard house, country, speed metal, some jazz, some classical, some latin, etc…

Like I said, too many other things that I could be embarrassed about that music hardly seems worth mentioning.

Tori Amos, her first two albums, plus a bunch of imported singles.
We get it, we get it, Tori. You hate your parents. You had some bad relationships. Blah blah pity cakes.
It's no excuse to constantly grind yourself up on your piano.

Of course, having these cd's helped me bag a couple of chicks back in the day.

I thought Bon Jovi, Slippery When Wet (old school vinyl by the way) was bad, but Billy Ray Cyrus? I can't get near that. MC Hammer couldn't even touch that.

Harharharhar...I had a blast reviewing one of her CDs for a friend's magazine once. For some reason, he used to give me all of his hatchet jobs.

That said, when I was a child in the early seventies, I had a Partridge Family album. Loved it to death.

Be Bop Deluxe? Anybody heard of 'em? Late seventies pop/rock? Actually, the guitarist, Bill Nelson, was pretty good.

OK, I have to resurrect this, because I can OWN all of you with the following words:

Village People, "Go West." ON 8-TRACK.

I was in 4th or 5th grade, and I saved my money and bought it myself. I spent an entire summer listening to "In the Navy... yes you can sail the seven seas... in the Navy... yes you can put your mind at ease..."

God I loved that song. So much that I'm now actually in the Navy.

My CD collection eats all of yours alive. But I'm not embarassed and I defy anybody to top this!

*both* Christina Aguilera discs

Mariah Carey's Christmas album

Village People best of

Metallica's Re-Load

Jewel's Pieces of You and whatever her recent one is (I just know one of the singles is now the jingle to a razor commercial)

The CD single to Meredith Brooks' "Bitch"

Some compilation disc (the kind you get at gas stations) with such luminaries of neon jam shorts rap as Kriss Kross, Another Bad Creation, and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (hence why I can never ever take Will Smith seriously as an actor)

Everclear's So Much for the Afterglow goes on here posthumously (that one was so lame I sold it to Bookman's)

In my youth (ages 8-12) I had, among other things, the Ace of Base CD, all New Kids on the Block cassettes, and a bootleg tape of "Whoomp There It Is," purchased from my friendly local welfare scammer and gram-measurer at the Galt Flea Market.

The last CD I bought was Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, and the next time I am near a Starbucks I am getting Alanis Morrissette's acoustic album.

Oh yes.

Oh, bad memories. There was a Greek kid in my class in grades 4 and 5 who used to sing Snow and Shaggy songs all the time.

I don't really have anything that embarrasses me. I have a girly j-pop cd that I found in a hostel in Toronto. 'Cocco' sits in my iPod artists list between Choking Victim and Face to Face, and really doesn't really fit in with anything else I listen to, but I like her songs.

I once gave a panhandler $2.

He was impressed, so he gave me an Aerosmith CD.

I shouldn't have taken it, as it was probably stolen.

I still haven't listened to it though.

EDIT: good thing you didn't ask about vinyl :)

Shaky, those last two posts of yours had me wiping spit off the screen. Elvez's was a nice touch too.

Yeah, I had Kris Kross, but that's nothing compared to some of the smack in here.

Although, I did have a roommate in college (a dude) who sang Jewel in the shower. His favorite was "hands"
