Ahh.. the Lake. What a wierd Labor Day weekend. Here I thought it was going to be crazy.. wrong. The CCC lot was only half full, and the only real group up at the bluffs (East Rampart at that) was some huge group of Russians that had a bunch of climbs hung, but were really only in one spot. To give you an even better picture, we finally were able to get up to the bluff between 3 and 4 in the afternoon, and Brighton's Crack was empty. Seriously, that never happens. Even more odd was how crisp the rock was, even with all of the humidity. It was great, climbed 4 trad classics (Two Pines, Peter's Project, Birch Tree, and Congradulations), called it a day and drank beer.

It's just to bad that Monday was such a mess weather wise. After getting completely dumped on around noon, we just decided to call it a day (although, I heard the rest of the afternoon was perfect). Next time I guess..

So, what's the deal people. When are we actually going to have a gtg at the Lake? Personally, I think everyone is slackin' (myself included). I'm saying we put something together the weekend on the 25th of September. Eventhough I have to teach a class that Saturday, there'll be plenty of night left. Not to mention, all of Sunday to mend.

Also, for anyone that might be interested. I'll be traveling down to HP40 again during the beginning of October. The 6th through the 10th. If anyone is interested, let me know. We can meet-up down there..

Well it looks like I'm heading back to the rock. Rach and I are either leaving tonight for the lake or early Saturday morning. I have to be home by 3 so its going to be a short day but at least I'll be on the rock. Hope to see you there.

Chris

Yes Dan I'm still alive. Just not climbing much

sunday the 26th would be awesome for a gtg at the lake. i'll be back in 'scony for the weekend, looking to touch some real rock again that's not sandstone (see, i have developed a theory that i'm a superhero, like bruce willis was in unbreakable, and just like his superhero weakness to water, my weakness if sandstone--everytime i get on it, i almost die), and i have a date with birthday crack in my birthday suit.

quickclips, awesome that you're climbing this weekend. I wish that i could be with you guys, but alas, the black hole of michigan has sucked me into its gravitational field from which no climbing has escaped. this state blows...

Guys, I'm heading to the lake on Friday morning and am looking for someone to climb with on Friday. Then Dancing, and others are going to join me. We're staying at Green Valley, and I'll be climbing again on Saturday before I take off to see my girlfriend. I think rach and a few others are going to be staying and clmibng Sunday as well...

Anyone down?

C

Hi i just moved to the Twin cities and i was wondering what kind of climbing there was around here. I am a 5.7-5.8 climber who has climbed outside only a few times.

Do a search for climbing areas and routes anywhere in the U.S,. right here on this site!!

If not, I would recomend the Deathhorn which is in Nebraska, it's kinda reachy at 37,000 ft. but it goes at lV 5.2+R m16 C3+ A0 R

It's really just a highball boulder problem!!

I guided a group of hermaphrodite dwarves on it last year but we had adjustable russian kneepads and 7 liters of bacon greese!!

check out the routes database on the site, as the dude said. about the only climbing that i know of is around the north shore of lake superior and the MN/WI border like taylors falls and willow park. most of us on this forum climb at devil's lake in central wisconsin (or so. ill., for the illini among us who prefer to go there instead of the red over labor day weekend)...

Yeah, you missed out on Monday. The weather forecast must have scared off most of the people (even those in my club because only two of us went). I was able to get a rope up in the Bedroom Amphitheater for the first time and climbed Foreplay and Orgasm. There was a little drizzle of rain at about 11AM or so, but after that the day was great. Finished up on Charybdis.

is anyone here going to the Red for Rocktoberfest? I think I am, and it would be sweet to meet up with anyone free for the weekend for some climbing and miguel's pizza...

I'll be headed out to the red for Rocktoberfest along with a few friends from Oshkosh. I hear that Quickclips might be able to go too. I hope that I won't loose too many draws... I haven't done any leadin gsince may. actually i have really only climbed about 6 times total since then...

Dan (monopocket) Nick (xrevx) you guys should roll down there together. I'm not going to be able to make it this year, but i'm sure you guys will have a good time. Nick, we'll have to get together next time I'm in UWO. Dan, are you coming out to P-ville anytime soon?

oh man, i'm questioning going to the Red after i tweaked a tendon in my right hand yesterday when climbing at the gym--so i'm on this problem, left hand on a sloper, right in a three finger pocket/scoop. shift my feet so i'm nearly horizontal and ready to cross through left to the finish when i hear a pop in my right hand--i couldn't even close my hand into a fist when i woke up this morning. I'm even worried about going to the lake this weekend with dancing et al because i don't want to do any more damage. BUT...it is real rock, which i don't think they've heard of here in michigan, so i'll prolly be out there on saturday anyway. If i can go to the Red, xrevx, you're always welcome to ride along with me. if i do go, i'll be meeting up with people outside of gary again to ride together the rest of the way.

about platteville, i really want to crash your abode sometime. i'll probably need your and j-rock's help to surprise a certain someone--but we shouldn't be too vocal about that on this forum. maybe by that time the bouldering room will be climable, the hangboard will be back on the wall, and my tendons and i will be reconciled to one another.

thanks, punk...at least i'm not living in a basement. i've got the 'princess room'...at least until my room gets painted, that is. j/k. it's good to hear you're still alive. I'm officially out for the Red with school and $$$, which I'm bummed about significantly. But at least I can stay around here and memorize more Hebrew vocab...blech.

Been climbing lately?

I was there, but i don't think that anyone else on this forum was there. It was a perfect day Saturday to climb--temps in the 50's, sunny, light winds...i don't think that there was a better day at the lake to climb, besides the insane number of people at the top of the CCC trail at D'Arcy's buttress. Any more g2g's will prolly have to be done without my presence to grace you with. my Midwest climbing season has probably ended, unless Thanksgiving turns into a good time to climb at the Lake.

Bummer nothing materialized...

I was there last Sunday along with three others on here (wildtrail, cloudscientist, and sacred insanity) ...

We're headed up again this Sunday. Going to do some scouting Sunday later in the afternoon and then do our climbing Monday, starting early.

Anybody else planning to be up there Sunday/Monday? We'll be staying at the Lake.
