Either you are a troll who is amused by starting arguements or you are too lazy to educate yourself about the history of this sport and the contributions aid climbers have made and continue to make. A similar topic was discussed not very long ago. Aid Climbing = Cheat Climbing [ This Message was edited by: wigglestick on 2002-02-12 08:44 ]

This is funny because there was another idiot on this sight about a month ago that went on the same disturbing trend of trying to piss off people by insulting all the aid climbers on the sight. As I stated before, get out and climb before you insult any type of climbing.

Permitted?? bold, Do you have a clue about climbing? I have never realized there was such a seperation in the climbing community until I become a member of rc.com. Ok, so you may never want to sleep on a portaldge. You may not want to do all of the hard work that comes with climbing a big wall. Do you realize what you are even saying. What if aid climbers didn't think you should do routes that took less than an hour. Do you see how ridiculous it sounds??? wigglesticks is right, if you are a troll, it is not amusing. If you are not, GET A CLUE!! Boulderer, Sport Climber AND Bigwall Climber, Ammon

These sorts of threads are so pathetic. As are the people who start them. Oooo...yeah...ban aid climbing...ooo Even I, the notorious rockclimbing.com gym rat understands the importance of aid climbing, and has much respect for the activity. I myself have never aid climbed, but have both respect and admiration for those who delve into that area of our sport. Get a life, bold, (wow, you really are bold.) when you try to demean someone else or what someone else does, you only succeed in demeaning yourself.

Man, it was worth it just to read all the responses this misguided soul got. BTW, I think we should put our money where our mouth is and let this uneducated, completely off-based, and downright insulting post suffer in the form of a diminished Q-rating for the original poster. I've done my part. Anybody else care to step to the plate? I've only aided once in my life but I loved the hell out of it and hopefully will get to live a dream someday by spending a summer in the Valley honing my skills.

If it wasn't for aid, I couldn't get up all those .12s. I mean, step on a bolt here, pull on a piece there, dosey doe, and pretty soon you are aiding your way to cleaner, whiter teeth. Anyway, have fun and keep on craggin.

I say, any climber with chalk should be thrown into the Yosemite Dungeon (the Fed Gov't has one there, just for YOU) until he agrees to climb cleanly. Really cleanly. And all climbs that were originally done with aid, like Astroman, should be off-limits to free cimbers. After all, you should do the route in the same style as the first ascent masters: Warren Harding, Chuck Pratt and Glen Denny. If you can't do the "Enduro Corner" on aid, you shouldn't mess with history.

I personally like to aid boulder. Nothing more fun than standing in my etriers 3 feet off the ground reaching for that placement above my head. I've often had scary runouts of 4 to 5 feet. One time I took this huge whipper on a micronut...luckily I hit my crashpad :-)

If you are on a computer, you are cheating!hahaha!!--Do not post, write your response down on a peice of pulp paper, using a quill.Don't use the post office to mail your response to all the RC. members,as that would be cheating!!---Hand deliver your response to each member, one by one!!!(come on Krusty, this is fun) You can however use the pony express trail.(but you can't use a horse,as this would also be cheating)good luck!!! PTPP,you funny guy!!!---I love your post's,best camp site,HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Well, then you know nothing about aid climbing, or the fun aspect of it. That is your opinion and you are welcome to it, but I'm telling you this, skipping aiding is skipping fun. Why would you even think that, out of curiosity? Steve

Snapier is THE MAN! He's just the sort that will move from A5ing on the boulders to doing up the great walls of tomorrow. How else are you going to get the confidence? By whipping big time air??? And, of course, aid is for weak climbers. So, to all you weak climbers out there, DO PEOPLE REALLY LIKE CAMPING WHERE NOBODY ELSE CAN CAMP? People do. PTPP said it best: the best campsites are for those who climb. Really climb. And even if you climb aid, you still might wind up at a great bivvy that just misses that great grassy spot just off the summit of El Capitan. I guess you have to pick your line carefully. Like a true camper. Winnebago? Need not apply.

I dont like aid climbing. I'd take free climbing over aid climbing anyday. That being said i'm trying to get alot better at aid climbing. Aid climbing is the key to unlocking the worlds greatest freeclimbing. Oh ya, how do you think that 5.13 sport roof was bolted?

Wow I can't believe I am gonna write this in the Aid Forum... Good point Jeremy! At first I was like "unlocking the worlds greatest freeclimbing" where the heck is he going with this one... And your all right, we may as well hash this out again... To ANYONE who doesn't think you should be on a wall that can't be free climbed YOU are more than welcome to freeclimb on up to Ahwanee Ledge on the Leaning Tower and we'll discuss it all you like! Go get 'em boys Jeff

i think aid has its placing like every other aspect of climbing and i think it should be on the walls. without aid you would have to be super good to do many of the big walls through the world. i have gone aid climbing a few times and thought it was pretty cool. i like your point there beyondgravity. how did that 5.13 sport roof get nailed up? oh yea, an aid climber did it!

What I find even more amazing than the new 5.14d routes going up is this post that has survived an agonizing 6 months. I am not responding to the troll that stimulated this mindless exchange...I am reacting to the ongoing posting. Like it was stated earlier.....let it die!! And please ignore these pathetic trolls. If I wanted to waste my time on imature nonesense, I would waste my time wading through the slop posted on ST's forum section. Please, let's not sink to tolorating the kind of posts that you find elsewhere. Brian

think about it. aid climbing has opened so many doors to climbing. Many of the hard free routes we have know were once done with aid. Aid climbing also has inspired many new gear inovations like the splitter 2 cam and the WC zeros, not to mention rps and other small nuts. Without aid we might still be on that insanely hard 5.9 robbins put up.
