i'm looking for a gym in the downtown chicago area, i work in the loop and live in river west, so someplace that will be convient to hit up on my way home from work. i rock wall would be nice but isn't a necessity, mostly just a place to do some running/swimming/lifting. any suggestions?

It seems like there are enough humongous empty warehouses in that town to have at least one enormous, killer climbing gym. is there one?

The gyms in the area that you're looking run a really wide range from fairly spartan to luxury liner. My wife and I belong to on of the more luxe ones currently (though we'll see what happens when our contract is up). PM me if you want more specific info.

Just tagging onto this thread...Business has me traveling to Chicago (Lake Forest) and wondered if anyone could recommend a climbing gym. I saw the related threads but was looking for current info as I am not familiar with the area. Please PM me. Thanks.

In reply to: In reply to: It seems like there are enough humongous empty warehouses in that town to have at least one enormous, killer climbing gym. is there one? nope once upon a time there was a place named "Gravity" but it's been gone for years, now. Are you saying there isn't a climbing gym in Chicage? I am going there in April and cannot do a week without some form of climbing. Josh

In reply to: Are you saying there isn't a climbing gym in Chicage? I am going there in April and cannot do a week without some form of climbing. no. i essentially said that there isn't any "enormous, killer climbing gym" in chicago. there are places to climb, but no "THE place to be" with no/few downsides. in the city proper, i can think of 6 places with climbing facilities available (only 3 of which i'd actually bother going to). only 1 of those 6 is a "dedicated climbing facility," the rest are parts of health clubs. beyond the city proper (looking at the chicago metro area) i'm fairly certain that there are well over 14 facilities (counting all the park districts, YMCAs, Lifetime Fitness gyms, etc).
