Sadly, I suspect your best bet will be Denver Zoo. I've been here since '91 and seen precisely 0 bears (in Colorado) and precisely 0 mountain lions (although I have eaten some, yuk!).

But, on the bright side, as your visitor is a Brit, the odd herd of elk or big horn sheep up at the Rocky Mountain National Park might still impress 'em.

Ive lived in Colorado for 14 years...and I agree with mattq331. Your chances of seeing any really exciting wildlife like bears and mountain loins are very very slim...as for climbing, it depends on where you are going? Where are you going?

I've hiked around in Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park a bit near Estes Park, and I saw some bears. They were hanging out by trash cans, but they were bears...

I also saw some marmots.

Rent "The wizard of Oz".

Oh yeah, and play "dark side of the moon" too. It's kind of cool.

Well, it's kind of clutching at straws, but for what it's worth:

Best chance of seeing bears with 1k miles of Kansas is probably Yellowstone National Park. Throw in good climbing in Grand Teton NP, and you have a great destination there. BUT, in 3 weeks neither park is going to be very accessible.

Telluride is great, but I doubt you'll see much in the way of wildlife.
