ATTENTION. ATTENTION. May I have your attention, please?

The road that heads back to Upper Devil's Canyon (road past Oak Flat Campground) is closed. There's a HUGE gap where water has eroded the underlying earth, and the road is gone.

If you have a 4WD vehicle with fairly high clearance, you can still make it. Bear left just before the gap, down the small/shallow ravine, and then back up. A Jeep Cherokee or 4-Runner type of vehicle would make it, but I don't think a Subaru Outback or similar vehicle would. Feel free to try, but don't blame me if you get stuck.

Just an FYI access issue alert to everyone.

That is all.

What part of the road? The old US 60 portion or the primitive road from the Oak Flats CG that circles back to Upper?

Kudos on the Taurus, just goes to prove that the faster you go, the smoother it gets.

The primitive part, after you turn off US 60 and make the left by the CG.

Last time I was out there I did it in a cherokee ( rented, mo ha ha ). If it's even worse now I can't imagine anything with lower clearance making it!

P.K.

Yes. The washed out road is old Hwy 60 just a few hundred yards east from the Magma mine road. You can do as reno suggested, or (with a true high-clearance vehicle) you can take the other road that takes off east from the campground proper.

Almost a year later...

Haven't been out there in awhile, and was just wondering if the road returned to normal low-clearance access yet?

Thanks!

Yes, the road has been repaired and low clearance vehicles can make it through.

Yep. It's been fixed. Normal passenger cars can make it back there, no problem.
