I'm going to be in Toronto in May but am unfamiliar with the area (as I live in California). I'd like to go climbing for at least one day while I'm out there. I'd prefer a sport route so I don't have bring all my trad gear on the airplane. Any good recommendations for sport climbing around the 9-10a level? I just need a crag and a guide book, if possible. Thanks...J

Pick up "A Sport Climbers Guide to Ontario Limestone" by Chris Oates and Marc Bracken. http://www.mec.ca used to carry it online but I think they bowed out to http://www.amazon.ca. The MEC store in Toronto sells it as well as "The Escarpment A Climbers Guide" by Bracken, Barnes & Oates. Unless you are from Kansas or Saskatchewan, be prepared to be disappointed.

Hey,

If you have time defiantly check out the Bruce Pennisula (approximately 3 hr) drive from T.O. it would be well worth it to climb at Lions Head. But if you do not have time the following will be great options.

Mt Nemo – Great Sport & Trad
Kelso Cliffs – Mostly Trad
Rattlesnake Point – A lot of beginners and top-roping
Buffolo Crag – All Trad
Niagara Glen – Great Bouldering – Approx 1 – 2 hr drive from T.O. (also you can check out the falls – 5 mins down the road).

Good luck!

P.M. if you have any other questions.

-Aaron
