ABC stores? are those liquor stores over there?? they were in VA... otherwise I can't help that question. I personally have boycotted starbucks for years now, it's the best thing you can do. I've seen kids handing out directions to local shoppes outside of starbucks in the citys - they probably get kicked out from the front of the shop pretty fast, but it's worth a try ;) I'm happy to say that to my knowledge there is no starbucks within a 30 mile radius of me. That might be a New England thing? However there are a freaking ton of Dunkin Donuts!!!

oh and by the way, here's another reason I won't buy their stuff This ad came out in April of 2002 - 7 months after 9-11... a little too creepy of a marketing tactic for my taste.... http://www.snopes.com/...s/images/toocool.jpg

There is one 5 blocks away from my apt, one across the street from my lanudr-o-mat, and one more that I pass on the way to my classes on UK's campus. There are also I think 2, maybe 3 more in this city. When I moved here in 97, none. Totally stoaked that there is a new localy owned coffee type place two blocks away.

...Starbucks saturates the market and only signs short term leases. Taking the choice locations based upon high visibility corner or retail locations, drive thru availibility, and demographics. Once they have saturated the market, competition withers. Since the leases are short term, if they need to decimate they can. All corporate owned stores, their stock is doing well. In the Know

...while I don't care for the coffee at SB, they are a well run, high quality corp. They test for water quality prior to opening a site. They have state of the art filtering systems, and they have corp. training facilities in all regions. A high quality product, highly trained staff, and frequent corp. evaulations make for a company with staying power. Besides they help pay for my kids education....stock tip of the day. MR

They keep their bathrooms very clean as a rule. Do NOT underestimate this amenity. I go out of my way to shit at Starbucks. I try not to buy their coffee, but sometimes thats all there is. It gives me great satisfaction to eacuate my bowels at Starbucks and then leave without buying anything. Try it, you'll see. Petty fecal humor encourages regularity. Cheers DMT

Wierd, I like starbucks and try not to get worked up about inconsequential crap like where I buy my coffee. Plus the girls at the 'bucks are waaaaay cuter then the old french ladies with the nasty black hairs growing out of there chins at Timmy H's....

Just by showing your face at Starbucks, you have helped create the buzz that they are well visited by those who know. You unwitting fool!

i live in what used to be a pretty run down neighborhood in chicago. while it's still mainly lived in by homeless and vagrants and the like, in the past few years 3 starbucks have opened up all within two blocks of my house. it's sick. also, i thought it was bad here, but i was in seattle a while ago, that was simply overwhelming. in short... support your local coffee shops!
