but does that really count?

If you view it with traditionalist glasses on, no. you toproped it and therefor it doesnt matter at all.

But, whatever. If your a beginner i assume your climbing in the gym, and just about all ethics go out the window there anyway. All that really matters is that you accomplished a goal for yourself, and your ready to move on to different terrain. congrats on your first 10 and good luck with leading.

Congratulations! Hitting a new grade is always intensely satisfying to me.

Keep setting reasonable goals and remember not to get caught up in the grades too much.

reaching a goal is one of the best feelings. nothing like progression to make you feel better. keep on setting those goals and youll improve 100 times faster. don't chase numbers, but use them for goals. you'll feel great, climb great, and in the long run, be great!

Yes, I would say nailing a 5.10 counts as climbing in that grade. Just be careful when you go around telling people that. When you're climbing, outside especially, and you tell people you climb 5.10 (not saying toproped) its assumed you mean leading. If someone gets partway up a 5.10*, gets scared, bails, and then turns to you to see if you'll finish it or grab the draws, some people might get torqued when you say "well I never led that grade before."

Good job. If it is a minus it still says 5.10 before the minus. Set your next goal as leading a 5.10 keep up the good work.

Oh one more thing, be sure to warm up before any strenous climbing--

I just strained my flexor tendon last night on a V2 boulder problem because I got cocky and told myself I didn't need to warm up because I had climbed the problem many times before.

Long story short, 15 minutes on the traverse probably would've prevented this injury which looks like it will take at least three weeks to heal.
