I'm going to Auckland in August. I'm going to work in auckland for about 6 months. I need a partner to climb with in crags in auckland or around, within a short drivin distance or that I can go with bus or train.. What's the best climbing gym in auckland? And what's the cheapest one?? Thanks for the help!!! Marcos Goldraich Porto Alegre/BRAZIL mgoldraich@gmail.com

Sorry to tell you this Marcos but you picked the wrong town for outdoor climbing. There is only one crag in Auckland, an old quarry at Mt. Eden. It's all trad. Apart from that, the nearest crags are several hours away by car. I don't know about the gyms up there. Have a look at http://www.mojozone.co.nz maybe you can post there and have your questions answered. Any time you get to Christchurch, in the South Island, yell out. We can go climbing. Cheers, Gary.

I don't want to go to Auckland either, but I'm going there 'cause it's easier to get jobs there, since it's bigger. First I'd wanted to go to ChCh, but I don't know how is the job scene there. Probably (I mean for sure) I will go to ChCh to climb. What ae the best crags there for sport climbing? Castle HIll does have any sport or is it just boulders? Thanx for the help.. Marcos Brazil

Castle hill has sport climbing, most of it s high grade. Most people go there for the bouldering though. The Port Hills around Christchurch has sport and trad climbing. There s alot of sport climbing in the centeral North Island, around Wharepapa.

I'm based in auckland and we have a small group that climbs regularly. at the moment, we are climbing indoors however we occassionally make trips to nearby (read as 2 - 2.5 hrs) crags like Wharepapa South and Ti Point on weekends. However, it's now coming to the winter sports season, so most of us are likely to head down the mountain on weekends unless the weather is crap but we still climb indoors on weekdays. once spring comes (October onwards), we'll be heading back outdoors to the Mt Eden quarry (either long or short side) for either top roping or trad lead climbing. feel free to drop me a line when you're around. boon

Bolted climbs are at Ti Point (north of Auckland) and Wharepapa South (south of Auckland, in the Waikato region). The quarry is in central Auckland and is generally a short drive from most parts of Auckland. check out www.climb.co.nz for more information about rockclimbing in New Zealand. and yes, you friend can contact me - PM via this website. boon

If you are looking for computer orientated work, have you tried http://it.seek.co.nz? Chch would definitely offer you alot more sport climbing opportunities (500+ sport routes within a 20 min. drive!)
