well steve and i were quite depressed two weeks ago when we finished a fine day of climbing (two trad climbs and two aid climbs) on the east bluffs by discovering that The Old Schoohouse was closed down!!!! we'd been going there on nearly every DL trip for over a year and greatly appreciated the quality beer list and excellent pizza, the outdoor deck topped it off, but the place never seemed to be as busy as i thought it should. so, now we need to find a good hangout again for post climbing beer and grub. any suggestions?

yes, it is rather depressing they closed down.. I noticed that on my last trip at the lake last year. They let down so many people - I know, lets boycott em until they open back up!!

Got one word for yah. Hoooootties! Good food, right at the front door of the park, big bar, and you can even shoot some stick if you feel so inclined.

In reply to: Got one word for yah. Hoooootties! Good food, right at the front door of the park, big bar, and you can even shoot some stick if you feel so inclined. I had bad nacho experience - I'll only go back there if I get dragged there by a unaminous decision from the group.

just drive into mad-town! lots of food options and a guaranteed hang-over for day two of your climbing trip. i can't imagine getting up on sunday at the lake without the dry mouth and pleasant headache from a night at the 'dane.

Hooties is the spot at DL. There's a bar on the river with a deck and a small dock where they are building condos/townhomes for sale which has good food, but the service always blows. At Hooties you can get anything you want and its always good. They always have great deals on food during the weekends, too. Hooties is at the North end at the main road.

Suprisingly good. They got a ton of imports along with the regular domestics. I reccommed the tall boys of oldstyle for a 1.50. They got stuff like Bodingtons, Honkers, Moose drool (I think) and some off the wall belgiums too for the gentleman drinker.

For wheat beer go with the local brew "Sprecher", its really good. Just be sure to roll the bottle to get all the good stuff off the bottom. For a lighter pilsner or pale ale, you could go with another local brew, "Spotted Cow". Good stuff. The food is good. I've been there probably 100 times now chowing down and haven't needed a hepatitis shot (yet)! The other place I don't remember the name but its down the DL south of the park a bit. If you ask some locals and say a deck bar on the river with a boat launch/dock by some new condos, they should know it. Food is great. Awesome cheese curds - who doesn't like those? but the owner is a J/A and service always blows in the evening when you're ready to eat your own arm. I'll probably be at Hooties tomorrow night and the other place Sat late afternoon on my way back to chitown

Dude, they don't sell those in Chitown burbs, so when I go up there, I usually make sure to drink my fill. I can get Miller Lite anywhere, so why drink that?

There is a bar in Sauk City calle the Press Box that has awesome burgers. How does this sound? A 1/3 lb. Angus Burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, sourkrout, pickles, cheddar, bacon, and sauteed shrooms. They usually have at least a couple good beers on tap too. KiteandClimb- the "good stuff" in the bottom of the bottle is millions of dead yeast cells leftover from the bottle fermentation process. Suprisingly, most people actually avoid drinking that.
