I'd have to say the strangest thing I've done "climbing-wise" would be the session of human bouldering done at Miguel's Pizza in Kentucky. We had people bouldering people! The problem was to start "piggy-back style" on someone's back, mantle over their shoulders, down the front, through their legs and up their back again. It was freakin' hilarious

Back in 1978 I too got caught climbing my college dorm. I was doing a skyhook travere out a 1/2 inch ledge out the third floor lounge window. I had a rope but the traverse was dicey since the building starting chipping away.

More recently I climbed a 5.9 tree approach to a climb in Thailand. The tree climb is called "Tarzan" See" target="_blank">http://member.newsguy.com/~climbing/FunPhotos.html">See the picture of Tarzan on this page on my site.

The new Yahoo! Head Quarters building while they were building it I use to work across the street, those I-beams were fun.

Also the earthquake proof pallet racks in the warehouse when I worked at the same place.

What a great post---

lets see, how about...

the outside of a 100 foot grain silo on little concrete edges. When you fell and hit the side of the thing it sounded like a big drum.

a beautiful 200 foot hand crack on the OU football stadium.

The "Sobriety Test Crack" in downtown Flagstaff, AZ. After the climb I had to find a way down and was floodlighted by the gustappo. "Yep, they got that "mother gooofing" thief again. So, I downclimbed a mortered limestone wall to where I could jump onto a dumpster....that was where I was "caught in the action of a crime against humanity". It was a classic sight, while I was bound and cuffed in the back of the ociffers car and hearing my friends give "beta" and "urge" the coppers on. "Come on man, you got it!!!" "Just rock your ancle left and wedge that boot in!!!" "Jam your hand and wedge it in that crack....your a real cop are you not???" So, they got to try and boulder this three storey problem....it never happened and they let me go after some intense interrogation of my friends.

Well, for work I get to climb, and the best was when I raped from the top of stapples center (where the Lakers and Kings play). But when I raped I did it Aussie style and almost got kicked off the gig.

Climb safe and don't drive angry

I wanted to add a link to that photo on this thread but I'm not sure how to do it... that human bouldering does make for a wild party game though!

Add "The Macaroni Grill" to the list on buildings with positive holds. Also last night I rapped out of a dorm room window.

Radio tower, water tower, brickwalls, a huge smoke stack, tail fin of a huge gutted out airplane, slab climb upon exiting the cockpit of the airplane, palm trees, balconies, and fire place chimneys.

Heres a good one for ya...

Climbed a football Y-thingy (you know what im talking about, the thing they kick the ball between for the extra point.)

That may not sound hard, or even too wierd, but try doing it with no hands. It was soo funy looking. Hardest thing i've ever done, cause i kept falling upside-down.

Another crazy climb was the inside of my dresser. Its built into my wall, but if you open the drawers and go into my closet you can fit through the holes that the open drawers make. The only problem is a siding bar between each drawer, so you only have like 6" of space to climb into it. (im a very skinny person, even though im around 5'10"-11") Great for hide and seek, not so good when someone starts closing drawers. Also a good place to go and "think" in privacy.

The strangest thing that I have actually sended was the corner crack between the office buildings where I used to work in central PHX. It was perfect hand jam for about 3 stories!!

ivanm
BTW...I only made it up to the first story. I chickened out on the rest. Just didn't want to mislead anyone!

There's a building downtown, and any climber would agree it's just one of those that you just wanht to climb! It's made of this plasti-rock, or soemthing, I'm not too sure, but a friend and I went bouldering on the building, needless to say the sotre manager threatened to call the cops on us! but hey, it was funn still!

I made the first ascent of a cliff coming out of a lake, I started climbing from a boat and about a third of the way up I realized that the cliff was inhabited by hairy spiders as big as my hand, and they were many, and they were fast, they could climb well above 5.15, and I had a feeling that they wanted me for lunch. Unfortunately I couldn't go down as it would have meant leaving gear behind. The climb which was moderate 5.8 without the spiders suddenly became a hard 5.10 which I speed climbed barely protected. I didn't even know that such things existed around here.

Once on a tour I was leading in Spain, I tried to do a stemming problem on top of the parapet in the Castle in Segovia, but my daughter gave me hell and said I should get down before a guard saw me and I got shot; on another trip I was in Portugal, in Evora, and I tried liebacking a 1st century Roman column, only to find out it was highly illegal...
the strangest real rock I have climbed is Stein's Pillar, near Smith Rock. Guess who did the FA back in the day??

Thats a cool pic Daisuke! Now there's a climber. My weirdest place(not really weird but oh well!) is probably buildering up some of the walls of our condo we stayed at in Colorado. They go up about 3 stories but its a little freaky when you got the managers sitting at the bottom waiting for you to get down. I still want to try some of Houston's Skyscrapers....
