Hey guys. Well it's been years and the outdated look and feel of the Rack Simulator (http://www.racksimulator.com/) doesn't deserve the traffic it receives. So we're going to do a complete redesign. Ideas on our end include: - interactive flash graphs - more gear and fix lots of gear stat bugs - you won't need to login to use it - facebook application so you can include your rack on your facebook page - better overall user interface and usability issues - merge your rack with your partner's racks A solid 70% of the RackSimulator is user suggestions so we wanted to ask you guys what you want in Rack Simulator 2.0. Love it or hate it we want to hear your thoughts. Because we're a company* now (well Spadout.com (http://www.spadout.com) is, not the Rack Simulator) I only have permission to post once. But feel free to send all ideas to mark AT (NO SPAM) spadout.com (remove “no spam”). You can also PM me. We'll reply to all suggestions. Rack Simulator 2.0 will be ready by March, 08. Thanks, Mark Mark Silliman mark AT (NO SPAM) spadout.com (remove “no spam”) Founder of Spadout *Company is defined as 6 climbers, living in 6 different states, who didn't want to work real jobs bad enough that they made it happen.

Need to include OP products on there, as well. If you added hybrid aliens, it would be nice as well. My eyes rolled when I saw the collected value of my gear. I need a cheaper hobby.

My suggestion would be to make accessing it a little bit easier. It took me a few tries to successfully login. Also I noticed under your DMM entry you only listed the 3 cam units, could you include the 4 cam units as well.

I would also like to add the Hybrids ... the problem is that they obv. don't have a set 'range' because the inner and outer range are unique making them slightly incompatible with this concept. Would you like me to simply add them based on the outer range (so you can still obtain weight data etc?) If you guys (and ladies) want me to add new gear simply send me a link (or post) of the gear stats and I will add it asap. THANKS for all the tips so far!

In reply to: fun concept. was not able to start a rack. got into some loop where it kept asking me to create a user if i said i didn't have a rack yet. if i said i had a rack, i never got to a place where i could edit/view it. I had the same problem using Firefox. I switched to IE and it worked for me. You need to add more gear other than pro. Adding biners, slings, belay devices, etc. This wouldn't factor into the range graph but would give you an idea of weight. It is a little time-consuming to use as it takes 5 clicks to add a single piece of gear. Perhaps it would work better if you could check multiple pieces of gear in each list, for example, allow me to check off BD stoppers 4-13 on one page instead of going back and forth between several. All in all it's a great concept, it just needs a little tweaking.

cool toy. i was a little annoyed that i couldn't add complete sets of pieces...like a range of hexes or nuts all at once. also, the rack weight given does not include any draws, biners, or slings. 'twould be nice to see those added as well... thanks for posting this. josh.

Dang, well over $1300 on pro and over 4kg. And thats just pro. I sould have stuck to being a dirtbag sporty. Cute, a little clumsy, but for freewere, a nice toy. Shows how much biners actually weigh, as my rack is well over 8 kg all up.

It's a cool idea, but I have a few suggestions for you if you want them: one should be able to add a set (or a range) of cams or nuts. it's kindof a pain to enter each of the 10 metolious nuts individually, when most people buy the set and not each individually if you add biners the weight will be more accurate. 6 lbs seems pretty light for a rack of 2 sets of nuts, 4 hexes, 6 tricams, and 11 cams I do like the idea though, kinof a cool way to look at all the stuff you have and say "wow, i've spent a lot of money on this stuff!" Fun! Minor nitpicks: * Missing Camalot 3.5 (might be a pre-C4 size) * At least one of the Rock Empire cam colors are off (I know that the Comet #2 is yellow, not red as shown) * Missing Cassin halfmoon nuts (yeah, really minor nitpick; not very common items) Bob "BetaTester" K.

Nice idea. You seem to be missing the #2.5 (Gold) Wild Country Tech Friend, though, as well as the WC Rocks. Agree that the navigation and ease of use could be improved upon. But, what you have works well and is very cool.

Can't get it to work  The 'I want to create a rack' links always point to http://www.spadout.com/...r=4&redirect=racksim which is the 'Create User' page. And I have yet to have seen the 'start editing my rack' link, anywhere! .....yes, I have already created a user, and logged in......

Sorry should have clarified... the create user page is where you want to be. The code actually runs on Spadout.com (my website). Follow that link (to the create user page) and you will get to the rack simulator. Enjoy! I am looking into lots of updates btw ... I am def. looking into allowing you to add sets of nuts (because that is a pain right now)

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's always the little f***ing things....... When you go to login, you (I) HAVE to tick the 'set cookie' box, otherwise I end up with the problem stated in my last post! Thanks for the help anyway, markanite. Now that I have gotten in, it is pretty sweet!

I agree the selector could be better, like a check box next to each item with an "add all" selector. and a biner selector. Also, missing Cassin cams and Wild Country rocks. VERY COOL though. Actually, when I get it all done, gonna file it away for insurance purposes. Gear alone over $1,500.00 so far - OUCH!

I had the same looping problem the second poster had. I realized that I was using Internet explorer and tried using Netscape. Works fine now.

Neat, but too much work for the user. When selecting e.g. passive pro, it would be nice if I could go down the page where you have all the gear listed, and just enter the number I have of each piece in a box next to it, rather than clicking on view item, add to my rack, return to my rack, add gear to your rack, passive protection (the 5 clicks someone mentioned previously). The sorting of pieces of pro could be more intuitive. The Microstoppers should all be in order 1-6, then should come the Stoppers. The 10, 11, 12, 13 should come after 9 rather than between 1 and 2. Overall though a very neat tool.

Very nice, but here are a few things you should add. Wild Country Rocks and 10 and 11 Wallnuts should be added, but there might be more that doesn't come to mind. I know this is a work in progress. Thanks for the site.

This is a fun program! I had no problems getting logged in and creating my rack as some seem to have had. You've gotten some good comments/suggestions here, hope they can be incorporated. Good work! JL
