Hi,
Apparently climbing is possible in Vietnam. I went to Halong Bay and I rented a boat for 36 usd ( we were 2, so 18 usd per person) for one day, The captain of the boat finded the routes (sector laughing dog wall) , I had some french papers about them. I try to meet travel agencies to know if climbing is authorize. I'll meet French expats in August, I think that they know something about climbing in Vietnam.
Routes were beautiful.
Let's go

Salut camarade,

A +

César.

Hi,
I'm free to climb from about November 17th to December 9th. I'm planning on spending time between Thailand and Vietnam, mostly Vietnam. I've climbed in Thailand before. I'll be returning from the Himalayas. If you're going to be in either areas drop me a line at calvin_kilcrease@hotmail.com or 559-907-1653

I will be in Hanoi for a short trip in early November. I would love to hook up with someone for a few days of climbing. I'd be psyched to get out anywhere including Halong Bay, a quick trip over to Luang Prubang, or any other destination in the region for some cragging and exploring. I plan to bring a light rack of gear (rope, QDs, etc...).

I'm in Saigon and will be for another couple of days, then planning on travelling North, up the coast, in hope for some dws, and any other sort of climbing if I can find partners. My email address is rupertb[at]gmail.com (replace [at] with @, obviously!) if anyone's close and wants to hook up.

I'll try to get in contact with those of you who have already posted.

It will be good to strech these slippers that are sitting in my backpack, unused for nearly two months!

I have no idea if you are checking this. On the off chance you are, I am looking for some info on the climbing scene in Vietnam. I am currently in Oregon, USA, and am considering moving to Hanoi for work. I really don't want to discontinue my climbing. I'm wondering if there are many climbers in the area, is there any bouldering, what's the rock like, safety, how far do you have to travel to get to climbing, is there any rock gyms in Hanoi.
If you can help, please email me at: rhondarae@gmail.com

thanks much

Hello,
Climbing and bouldering is unknown in Vietnam, some famous people (Todd Skinner, Lynn Hill, Arnaud Petit) went to open some routes. And here we are!
Here is the first website about climbing in Vietnam: Halong Bay and limestones, Nha Trang and granite boulders, Ninh Binh, the Phansipan at 3143m!
Enjoy, and join us!
For the moment, this website is in French and Vietnamese. We are looking for a translator. Translator, I need you!

Well, I too will be in Vietnam soon. I will arrive in HCMC in late January allowing myself a month to travel before I expect to start school in late February in Hanoi. I have only been climbing for a year and max out around 5.11c with no trad experience. I will be in Vietnam for a fair while and would llike to hook up with fellow climbers. Even a few words of wisdom would be great, but if anyone will still be in the area when I arrive I would love to coordinate. I am great all the way round as far as a quality partner is concerned, just not incredibly proficient on lead. Hope to hear back soon.

I'm a bit surprised that noone has mentioned the new climbing video, Dosage III. (http://www.bigupproductions.com). It has some absolutely incredible footage of Klem Loskot and Tim Emmett deep water soloing in Halong Bay, VN.

I DREAM of going to this place someday. Will someone please throw a move for me while you're there!

Have fun.

Will be in Halong Bay from about Feb 1 to about Feb 6 - first time there, but have been living in Asia for a number of years. I've been climbing for 12 years, and am completely comfortable leading anything that I can physically climb (which is up to about 6c, 7a on a good day). Have all my own gear (60m rope). My wife will be with me, she climbs a bit, but will probably just stay in the boat. If you or anyone else is looking for partners, please reply.

Also, does anyone have a read on how much Tet is going to effect getting to/from/around Halong Bay from Hanoi? How about accommodation, etc? Feedback from any long-term Vietnam residents would be greatly appreciated.
