Don't buy gear secondhand. (dangerous) How were you climbing without gear before? Someone is one word. :D (edited because I spelled secondhand as two words, not wanting to look stupid I spell checked later) :D

buying gear secondhand is the smartest thing I ever did. I don't buy ropes second hand, and you've got to inspect gear when you get it. But I saved myself a bundle by buying stuff on eBay and from this website, and I've never had to deal with someone who screwed me. That includes a lot of members of this site. I've bought ice axes, ice tools, trad gear, rock shoes, alpine mountaineering boots, a harness and probably some other stuff online.....and seriously saved myself a boatload of money. If you're poor, it's the way to go. I even bought my first rope online, but it was from a legit store, not second-hand.

Did anyone else think he was talking about the OR show in SLC? That is what I thought this thread was about from the title. OR, ooohhh Oregon, yeah that's right. Tip: if you are getting into just go with someone who has tons of gear and that way you can get tips, find out what you like, etc... why buy it if you can borrow it. :D
