Fascinating. I recently heard that a body poped out of the Mendenhall Glacier (which I live near). I heard that the guy was frozen solid and still in his Gore-tex. Wish I had more details on it... hosh.

Must have been one of those Gore-Tex prototypes that the military had 35 years before the commercial market

The dude still had on his Army clothes and chute. They have whittled it down to a plane crash from the 50's. CNN

Very good point crotch. I guess Gore-Tex is supposed to keep you dry more than warm, so I guess if he is encased in a block of ice but is dry under his Gore-Tex it would be a great endorsement. But I wouldn't mention that the guy was frozen to death in my adds even if he was dry. Even if he was dry, the fact that he was frozen and dead would be bound to draw criticism.

hey jammer, um, i'm pretty sure that article said "Park officials believe the serviceman may have been part of the crew of an AT-7 navigational training plane that crashed on November 18, 1942" and nothing to do w/ the 1950's, other than another crash it talked about briefly...i was a history major, i pick out these small details...but you still get an A for effort...

Now THAT was funny :D ...and you are correct RealDeal. GoreTex is simply a membrane that allows water vapor to pass through, but not liquid water. By itself, it has very little if any insulative qualities, although it is wind-proof. Other stuff provides the insulation. The company I work for does a lot of advertising work for the company, so I get bombarded with this stuff. So the poor guy with the expensive coat that the glacier coughed up could have frozen to death (or fallen, etc), but at least he didn't die clammy.
