I was climbing at sugarloaf today, tuesday Oct 25, when a couple loggers came up to us and asked us to leave cause we were climbing in an active timber sale. Due to the fire last year there is a lot of helecopter logging going on. The felling of trees started to get pretty close in the afternoon and the the helecopter started picking up logs close so when asked to leave we did. Just a heads up for anyone planning on climbing at Sugerloaf. Don't know how long the operation will last. The logger that asked us to leave said the chopper pilot was nervous about us being there and was concerned that his activities would cause us to fall and die and the logging company might be responsible. Whatever. I'll sign my name and give my phone number as I think Trollers suck. John Robinson 916 685 2505

they have to pick up all the logs eventually right? I have seen the helicopters myself from the crystal range...banana boats...the kind with two sets of blades...I wouldn't want one of those trees they pick up hitting me while i was climbing or otherwise...lol

As of yesterday (Dec 4th) logging still continues at Sugarloaf. A ranger met me at the trailhead and asked me to leave. He could not tell me when logging would be over but did tell me that climbing is illegal when logging operations are going on and if caught doing so, I could be fined heavily...like a thousand bucks or so.

Anyone know when the logging will be done? This is the best winter crag in the area. Hope its not closed all winter.

Phwew! Its about time.

Logging operations in the area are scheduled to be wraping up by December 31. Access will once again be legal starting January 1st. Climbing before then carries a 5000 dollar fine and confinscated gear. Its not that long to wait.
