mama washed my pants with a carabiner in the pocket. Will this affect it's integrity? It is a camp nano wire (i use it for a key chain). the gate still snaps smoothly. no corrosion or anything.

If you care at all about the safety of your keys, retire that biner! I'm sure it's riddled with microfractures.

If you use it for a keychain, does it matter?

Dude, it's fine.
Now, about 10 people are gonna respond with the overused lame joke "How about you send it to me?..I'll let you know"

Temperature cycling in the wash/rinse cycle may have work hardened the aluminum, and/or damaged the thin anodization layer.......better send it to me........

How about you send it to me? I'll let you know. (Well, I had to oblige, didn't I?)

Think about how many impacts it took in the wash! It's like dropping it from the mountain hundredes of times. Combine that with the huge temperature swings, and you've got a recipe for microfactures.

Don't even get me started on soap.

Depends on how many keys you've got on it. I'd say it's still safe for 3-6 standard sized keys. Just don't crossload something like a big Audi key across the gate and you'll be fine.

I think you'll be fine. If it was in your pocket it should have been padded from impact, and not as much soap would have gotten on it. Washing machine water doesn't get that hot (your biner would get hotter in the sun). If you're using if for keys there is no problem, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it for climbing.

ceramiclover, I hope to God you haven't sent that biner to any of the poor fools on this thread who have no idea of the danger they might be getting themselves into. More importantly, your own life is right now hanging in the balance and I just hope I'm not too late to save you.

This impending tragedy need not happen.

First: Take the impacted biner deep into the woods and bury it in a lead box. Drag huge rocks over the spot where you bury it, so that no one will be likely to find it ever again.

Second: Let me know where this spot is, but tell no one else.

Thank God for rc.com. I think I just saved a life.

The only way to tell if it is ok is through extensive testing. Send it to me and I'll climb on it for a few years and let you know!

I'm sure you understand the severity of your mistake by now and will help your mother take responsibility for her actions by sending all of us that replied to this absurd post with a brand new set of climbing gear.

As far as your biner just place it in a plastic bag and put it in the oven at 350 for 35 minutes. While the biner is cooking make yourself a plate of spaghetti. Once the biner is ready let it cool off for an hour, serve the spaghetti and with a cheese grater try to grate the biner on top of the pasta.

I hope it helps.

I think they make biners that say not for climbing on them. You may find that a not for climbing biner makes a key chain some what more light weight than your average climbing biner. Even though they are not as secure they should be okay for up to 5 keys. But I can understand why you would want to use a 22 KN biner for 6 or more keys. Keys can be very important.

So you're suggesting it would be worthwhile to you to trek deep into the woods, clear large stones, and dig up a lead box for one carabiner? I know you're joking, but I still feel bad for you.

Why are people using biners for keychains anyway? Aren't they just about the biggest most uncomfortable thing you could jam into your pocket?
