To the OP: Clearly, women cannot. It is a genetic impossibility.

I free solo on occasion. On some alpine routes it's key to moving fast. I can't say any of my solos have been notable but I enjoy it. I've soloed a couple of super easy routes in Eldo (The Bomb and Recon) and also this little number at nip and tuck in BC: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=53102 or this little kiddie route at Shelf: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=66159 Then there is that little 5.4 at Cat Slab. I just love soloing easy routes. Free soloing is one of those things where I only do it when I'm feeling 100% confident in my ability to complete the route. Somedays I'm totally dialed in and I know it. Then there have been days where I have been unroped on alpine stuff, really low 5th class, and begging for a rope due to loose rock and such. But I REALLY enjoy soloing super easy, low 5th class routes from time to time, when I'm just feeling it. It just feels good. It feels FREE! There are a few alpine routes that I want to solo but since I have doubts, I'll be carrying a rope on those.

Yeah, and now that I'm thinking about it, soloing those alpine routes I could see as being the hilight of anything I've ever done in climbing. It would be like a dream. I can't imagine how great it must feel to be able to move over a 1,000+' hunk of rock in such a pristine environment all by myself. Gosh, I think I'm going to cry. But I'm a girl, I can do that.
