Telling lies to non-climbers? Too easy- Magical faries put the rope up there, and Sylvester Stallone is called in to install all the bolts... as he's the only one who knows how to operate a bolt gun.

I submitted my climbing resume to the leader of an upcoming Sierra Club-sponsored Mountaineering trip, wherein I claimed to have done the first winter ascent of K2. They still wouldn't let me go on the trip.

Polarwid, your story about the Devil's Tower being full of water is PERFECT. There is a concrete water tank in the town where I live that has the exact shape and vertical ribbing of the Tower. I should go up and take a picture of it, and post it as a new climbing gym (it's only about twenty feet tall . . . ) My biggest lie was telling PTPP that there would be no problem with our going up the Excalibur. We made it, but there were some problems.

Why would I lie when I'm the reason 5.15 exists! Steve P.S. I'm summitting K2 for my 17th time next week Sunday. Then I am skiing down it. [ This Message was edited by: wildtrail on 2002-08-10 19:04 ]

The funnest was convincing a hiker that due to the americans with disabilities act, the forest service had installed a trail, complete with hand rails and no slope steeper than 10 degrees to descend Voodoo Dome at the Needles. The biggest question was why he hiked up whatever way he did, and did not use that great trail.

I also have summitted all 14, 8,000 meter peaks. In one year. Bare foot. In two feet of snow. Uphill. Both ways! Did I ever mention my Everest summit with the Dali Lama, himself? Steve

"Yeah, I walked up Realization, with sandals on. They didn't help much since I was only using my two pinky fingers. The only reason why no one has heard of me is because I'm not sponsored, and that I sent it at night, with no one around (onsight free solo - very hush-hush). Can hardly wait to see them pictures developed. Yup, took 'em with my right hand while hanging from the crux by my teeth." !

Most long and drawn out climbing stories (lies) start off with: "No sh@t, there I was..."
