Ice climbing, or more accurately dry tooling, looks as awkward as all get out. That was painful to watch. I felt uncomfortable seeing him worm around. I don't doubt it was hard, but it isn't a pretty thing to watch.

that looks like misery in the belfry. if so, it's m8+/9. just confirmed...it's misery. The climber is rich purnell, by the way - awesome guy!

sweet. nice to see a killer looking mixed climb lead to a killer looking ice curtain.

the steepness made it look way pumpy, but all of the hooks looked pretty bomber.

a couple of the videos at m9ice.com show him like this. His belayer is wearing a down parka and mitts and he's monkeying around with freakin tights and no gloves! Awesome climber!

the belfry is a mixed area in vail, in the same area as the classic "fang" and "ridgid designator". its above the fun and worthwile "spiral staircase". The belfry also has a few sweet ice routes like the pencil and eraser.
