ONLY 5.7- Climbers

I find that my ass gets chafed a lot as I grovel my way up most routes. I've heard that wearing Carharts is good for this but does anyone have any other suggestions?

No, your ass will still get chafed in Carharts. You need to do these types of routes naked in order to develop adequate calluses.

bravo!

And....I qualify!!

The answer is..... It depends. Are you saying that you WANT your ass chafed, and that is the reason you are wondering if brands other than Carhardt, which apparently have a solid reputation for this ummm....quality, might also chafe your ass? For added chafing, might I suggest wearing loose undershorts as well. The additional friction from your groveling will chafe your ass quite rosily.

...ummm....that is what you meant, isn't it....?

Definitely this is a topic better addressed in the Ask the N00b thread. But don't let that stop you from posting in both forums.....

From recent experience (cleaning 'new' routes), if you are looking for added chaffing, another thing to try is filling your underwear (tighty whiteys work best) with dirt, twigs, small rocks, etc.

I think packing a good lotion would help with the chaffing. I know my partner would have no problem with the application.

No, that's what to wear when you're leading scary routes in your 80s.

Ummm, I obviously didn't explain myself very well. I want to reduce the chafing!! Eliminate the chafing!!!

Thanks for the advice regarding additional friction leading to advanced chafing but cheese-grading down a 5.5+ slab will do that just fine thank you!

I suppose I could have posed this question to The NOOb but I wanted to target a select group of climbers meeting the 5.7- criteria....no offense to 5.7+ climbers and above.

Chafing is just another form of microfracture. Retire your butt.

between the cheese grading and chafing, maybe some liberal amounts of KY jelly could help....the warming KY jelly could be good for alpine

Oh really. I finally send "Double Cross" in Joshua Tree and suddenly I have nothing to tell you.

I am the same guy I was last month - just more accomplished.

Double Cross is 5.7+!! Sorry man but you don't fit the criteria.

Did you happen to send The Eye while you were down there? The classic 5.3R had me filling my drawers but I made it up without too much chafing.

I have no idea if this is a joke/troll or what.. I'll bite, only because it can actually be very frustrating, debilitating, and painful.

Two Words: Body Glide

You can find it at any running store, and some better sporting goods stores. Apply it liberally.

Chafing sucks. Every year I participate in an MS Fundraiser (that they cruelly put in the middle of the summer, thus exacerbating the effects on all the MS patients participating in the walk). Anyway, I used to have a HORRIBLE time with chafing, as it's a 50-mile walk (over 3 days). By the third day, I would be doing the "prison walk".

I've since gotten some Coolmax Boxer Briefs, and discovered the wonders of Body Glide. Now I'm a well-lubed walking machine.

I've never had that problem climbing, though. Not sure what you're doing there.

There are two things you can do to help your problem.

#1 preventive maintenance

Wipe 2 up 1 down 2more up

#2 Clean up

Two magical words "GOLD BOND" but make sure you get the medicated green bottle.

Chaffing is a scientific phenomenon associated with the various stages of the moon and its gravitation pull, much like the tide. So, if your pants wear out, don't climb with your full full moon hanging out.
