i am constantly surprsed my the number of people i meet with outdoor hobbies/profeesions/lifestyles whatever that dont wear underwear, and i was looking for some feedback, do you wear underwear, why or why not?

Not often, most of the time they are in the way, in less its long underwear but got to be cold. I do wear them in normal work life, but never climbing or when outside. On long climbing trips they are extra weight and serve to purpose other than a hat or flag. In less its ladies underwear than they are the hat or flag.

Even when climbing, I prefer pants with a fly zip. And if you don't wear underwear and get in a hurry, it can be an unpleasant experience.
I've also learned to only wear synthetic. No cotton. None. Zip.

They're extra weight, and they can get really stinky. They can also take a long time to dry if you're in a river.

I am pretty much entirely off underwear. I find it unnecessary, unless its really cold.
A theory. Perhaps this trend occurs because these people are the same kinds of people who dont frequently use other extraneous crap like TVs, SUVs, neck ties, styrofoam cups, hair dryers, etc, and underwear somehow falls into that category.

Lemme tell ya, that's a mistake you only make once. I don't wear underwear, thought I was the only one. I gave up undies in high school. After sticky sessions with my hippie girlfriend, it just seemed so pointless to put them back on. I have one pair I keep around to put on when I go to the doctors, and when I was single I always tried to have a pair on when going on dates. Some ladies may like to play with buttons and zippers, but may not be ready for what lies beneath!

That's the point. They get really stinky so your trousers don't. Kind of a sacrificial thing. Lighter than a whole second set of pants.
Me? My boys need a home. I'd never go without while climbing - the briefs help keep the sack out of the leg loops.

Shortly after I moved to NC from the left coast I was at Looking Glass with a couple of friends at the first belay on The Nose watching the weather and trying to decide whether or not to continue up. It was warm and sweaty and I asked Allen & Sean why we always wear all this hi-tech plastic clothing but still weat cotton underwear, don't it seem silly??
Sean looks over at me and says, "Underwear? What underwear?" and promptly begins singing at the top of his voice I'm free, freeballin' in his worst Tom Petty imitation.
Changed my life it did.

I do yes. My partner does not and once while belaying I got an eyefull. Needless to say, I requested that he stitch the hole in his trousers or not expect such an attentive belay next time.

i also love my undies and the support they give, i have some synthetic ones and they are bitchin. they keep my nuts from being sweaty.

the trouble with synthetic undies is that they get permastink.
with my job, i go 3 or 4 days between showers sometimes and when the polys finally come off, i don't need detergent, i need white gas and a match. or in extreme cases maybe just a match.
for support and sanitation i've settled on cotton tighty-whiteys and gold bond.

after a slight slipping of my right little buddy under the leg loop, i never go climbing without my underarmour. it is the best thing ever invented. probably.
