I called the office number listed on their website and inquired as to the legality of climbing within the park. The person I spoke with said that climbing was permitted, however you are not allowed to use "gear". It seemed to me that this person knew very little about climbing as the specific "gear" mentioned was only "hooks". Nevertheless, I do believe bouldering may be allowed as there is no useage of gear and, if I'm not mistaken (or they're not mistaken) I think this person mentioned one area that was an exception to the no gear rule, (if there is such a rule). The conversation was pretty vague to say the least. If anyone knows of routes, areas, that are open to climbing in the Valley of Fire, I would like to know as I might go there this weekend. Thanks.
