Right now, I like Guinness, Smuttynose IPA, Wachussett IPA, and Winterhook.
After some of those, I'll have a glass of whiskey, then finish the night with a couple Budweisers.

BREW = TEA (oolong or Orange Pekoe or Black)
hydration is key. since you really cant carry enough water throughout the day most people try to superhydrate at camp.
for me i need a minimum of 3 qts of water per day away from camp. I usually carry 2 quarts and a 20oz bullet thermos. and that still leaves me dehydrated.
i drink large quantities of hot tea at camp. usually 32ozs + I down a quart of water and my dinner usually consist of a soup besides the main course. so i probably down 2-3 quarts at night at camp + 1-2 quarts in the morning. hydration is key to sleeping warm at night so don't skimp.
decafinated teas work best but any tea will be adequate. i usually limit caffeine because it constricts blood vessels. i prefer tea to say other hot drinks because it is easy to clean (or actually not clean). I sometimes add a bit of sugar.
hot drinks serve 3 purposes 1) they hydrate (so do cold drinks) 2) the boost morale and make it more likely you will consume enough water 3) they warm your core.
bottom line is a brew is whatever you make it, the key is to find one you like and consume as much as you can.

On the subject of beer I never have and never will drink a mass produced beer.
Microbrews only. THe biggest brew I drink is Saranac, Guiness, and Boddingtons (cream ale, smooth as milk but taste like ale). I prefer Otter Creek Stove Pipe Porter or Blackhawk Stout locally. Tuckermans Ale was damn good the last time I had it. I love Ubu Ale (the 46'er Pale Ale isn't nearly as good).
My favorite all time beer was Woodstock Porter. Unfortunately that brewery was closed.
Most interestng beer is La Fin du Monde. 10%Alc. Very good beer too.
Locally the Pump Station produces a great Brown and Porter
Too me if I'm drinking a beer it should taste good and/or have some uniqueness to it. If I just want to get sloshed some jello shooters with lighter fluid ( i mean cheap vodka) do just fine. I have no f'ing clue how some of you people down the shit you do on a regular basis. Your probably the same people that consider McDonalds fine cuisine.

Boddingtons is quite good, so is smithwicks(sp).
my girlfriend was in a pub in england when someone offered her a free budweiser to fill out a survey. she said "you can keep your beer."

I thought I'd like Smithwicks but it's too carbonated. Not a bad Ale just not to my taste. I prefer smoother ales personally. I felt Smithwicks was more like a lager (and I hate lagers and pilsners which is why I'm actually not a US beer fan since most mass produced US beers are lagers or pilsners)
Boddingtons is excellent though. One of the smoothest beers I've ever had.
BTW, keep the girlfriend. I like the story.

heck yeah but only after I wake and bake a batch of hippie lettuce brownies, all that baking makes me hungry, but I never wake and bake then climb :lol: , thats just bad juju.

wake and bake... the ultimate starter to a great day... maybe snowboarding or biking though... burns me out and fogs my mind too much for climbing.
How about special "mushroom" tea theres a hot brew left off the list.... not what i'd like to drink and then go climbing though
As for brews of the alcoholic kind.... a real man drinks Guinness (and probly spells it wrong).
Canadian micro brew favorites are :
Cannery brewery (penticton) - Anarchist Ale
Nelson Brewery - Pretty much the entire line..... wild honey ale, liplock summer ale, After Dark Ale, blackheart oatmeal stout, paddywhack IPA
Tree Brewing (kelowna) - London Spy Porter, Hophead, Thristy Beaver

OK, I'll go along with the hijack:
I'm pretty much a Newcastle man, but on a recent trip to Montana I discovered a good alternative called Moose Drool Brown Ale, made by Big Sky Brewing Company.
It's worth a taste !

moose druel is a good time... was a little too skunky for my taste though kinda like a micro brew made at a budweiser factory. but anything named after animal saliva that is even drinkable rates at leasta 6.

Ya know I was drinking last night and thinking of all of you and this thread, I was drinking horrible alcohol, probably the worst beer ever made, but at the end of the night I was pretty sloshed so who cares what I was drinkin. Mushoom tea, might make a climb more interesting, in fact I know it would, not reallly my choice of something to consume while climbing, but you could have fun with it after the climb.

i just tried a TRIPPLE ipa, by dogfish head, a brewery somewhere on the east coast. it was too much brew for me. and i'd always thought more was better. but i've never bivied nude above 26,000 feet, so who cares what i think.
steve house probably mainlines it.

Honorable Mention Double Barrel Ale- Something like an English Bitter from what I've been told. Not the beer to hand to a noob, too strong with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. For the seasoned beer veteran however it can be a very enjoyable brew Anyone else??
Come out west and let your tastes mature.
start out w/ deschutes brewery...
their obsidian stout, black butte porter, and mirror pond pale ale will get you started..
progress to bridgeport's brews...
got to get some rogue brews (brutal bitter is the king)
and culminate with a 20 oz er of McMinnemans Terminator Stout!
now that's real beer, my boy!

um beers...black butte porter...or anderson valley brewing co amber ale...both good beers...both regional in the west...in the east allagash makes a bunch of great ones...magic hat isnt too bad either...but what trumps them all...gritty's original ale from the great state of maine...gotta love maine...
