Clueless E-Bay Descriptions

These always crack me up. Some people are just clueless, and some seem to know just enough to get themselves hurt. Sometimes it is an individual posting, and sometimes it is one of those third party sellers. No matter what they are usually funny. Feel free to post URL's to your own personal favorites. Here is my entry for the day.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7226529029&fromMakeTrack=true
(edited, link is dead)

So close, yet so far.

Cheers,
DRS

P.S. If you are the seller and see this don't get angry, just ask and someone will probably help you out.

the optimist in my says it could be from someone who's native language isn't english. he/she seems to have the basics of how the things work, if not the terminology. imagine someone from another country who doesn't speak english very well explaining a fifi hook to you in person. or explaining it to your friend who doesn't climb. i see that the seller is in texas...doesn't mean he's a native english speaker...

the pessimist in me says "Great trad pro and and a carabiner.", wtf?

This stuff could have also been stolen and the person doesn't know anything about climbing. Just proves you shouldn't buy gear off of ebay.

Even in Asia, where the language is definitely NOT Latin based there seems to be amongst climbers a standard knowledge, use, and terminology. They can describe it, how it's used, and are able to distinguish between hardware. Even though you may not be able to speak the same language, they can articulate in words and in broken writing what they are trying to get through to you. I see gear for real cheap as well, but I also see that the OP of the ad is indeed a moron...

I love the part about, "these may not been in today's trendy colors, but just as functional."

Yeah, that gear is not in "today's trendy colors" because the slings are so damn faded!!! Just as functional? I think not!

Yeah, most likely.

Seller: "I stole a backpack out of a car with climbing gear and now I'm going to sell it on ebay!"

 Veganboyjosh- That gear won't make the classic climbs easier- that gear was physically present for the FA of the classics.

...although- I've always wanted a circa 1962 harness, fig. 8 belay device, a "karrabiner" and a nifty bag for my topo guide.

I don't care what language you speak:
Fifis aren't for trad or for protection

Still, I found both of those descriptions hilarious.

No... They just damaged it to make it look good! Its like scraping your new cams on the driveway! Rubbing dirt on your new shoes etc...
Why not climbing books!!!
:)

Fact is sir, we are all idiots... Some people just like to share more.

What might possibly be even worse is that this guy does actually climb (and has no idea what he is doing), bought some stuff he has no use for and is trying to get rid of it.

I really don't completely disagree with him on this one.

Unless it is brand new with the tag attached...I'm not buying. Why wold I? If I was desparate, maybe...but I'm not, so why would I trust my life to something that has had god knows what happen to it and handled by retards like the "FIFI hook food crack" guy. It could have been stored anywhere.

If anything...trusting random ebayers is the "dumbass" move, bro.
