The seller delisted the fifi hooks before the auction ended  . I wonder if he saw this thread. I know that there are others out there who are addicted to E-bay. Post up if you find some good ones.

Cheers,
DRS

stolen gear

It's really much more likely that this gear is inherited, or purchased from a garage sale or something similar. A lot of people get a lot of crap that they really know nothing about, do some very basic research on it to make a description, and then try to sell it for more than they got it for on eBay.

Or hey, maybe this guy just boulders and he won 'em in a comp!

That vintage climbing shit you see on eBay is primarily stuff inherited, found at garage sales, estate sales, etc. What climber carries around old webbing, first editions of climbing books, figure eights and hobnail boots? I mean, come on.....no one steals that kind of stuff. It's estate-sale stuff.

Now, if you see an entire rack on eBay and the description seems kind of clueless, then MAYBE I'd think it was stolen. You'd be surprised that NOT that much stolen stuff is sold on eBay. Police departments are pretty wise to it and check it just like they check pawnshops (at least the semi-thorough ones do). Yahoo Auctions, and other less-reputable places are more likely to have stolen stuff.

Woah, I've never even seen hex/stoppers like those purple things, but I'm a rookie- so if it isn't mainstream I pretty much don't get it. At least I can get triples in blue!

You guys are goobers. Some of that old gear is truly cool, and much of it is still usable in certain situations. Agreed, the first guy was a dipshit but the rest? Ever needed to beef up or replace a fixed anchor? Ever need a couple old biners for bail gear? And what about those Camp hexes---those are certainly worth buying if just because they look neat!

Well, either the "original owner" had a memory lapse, or ...
Those purple things (which have 5 sides, so they wouldn't be hex stoppers) are "pentanuts."
I have several purple pentanuts - they were a clever idea - offerring a range of placement sizes, but were just too dang heavy for what they offerred.

Don't think I recall seeing drilled ones though...

Actually, that all looks like pretty good stuff. Sure theres some old Warthogs, but the wiregates and the wallnuts look fine.

In reply to:
i dig this auction. you think that gear'd make those classic climbs easier? or just more authentic?
of course, i'd still need boots and a rope...

My a$$ that gear has never taken a fall. You don't get kinks in the wire on stoppers like that by sitting on gear!
