Some climbers do something which being their habbit before their 1st grab. This might be a part of their climb in order to get a deep satisfaction. I make a cross.......and yours?

Say "Climbing" seems to put me in the right frame of mind. If I can see my belayer, I've already checked that he/she is ready so in that case when I say "Climbing", it's more for my own benefit than anything.

I know this girl who has to do a handstand before she begins climbing. It is kind of irritating, because she typically finds the largest group of people and does it in front of them.

I drop to the ground and flop around spastically singing happy birthday to myself over and over. No, really....i keep rechalking my hands....over and over. Some people take nervous pees, I excessively chalk my hands.

I make sure I'm tied in and my belayer is set up correctly. I take several deep breaths and whisper a few words to myself. Usually I try to visualize myself going through it very quickly. That's about it, nothing too creative

I fart. I think it helps give me that added *umf* up the rock. Sort of like turbo boost.

I take a deep breath and ask myself why the hell I am doing this again. (I am still a little nervous about heights) But I get up there and love it!

interpretted this post as what do you do before you need to make a committing move. for that, I count to three. sometimes I have to do this a few times before my feet listen. before leaving the ground, recheck my tie-in, take a couple deliberate breaths, chalk up and rub my hands a little. once, I saw a couple guys on a hairy climb. the one on lead was scared out of his bejeebus. he started to cluck like a chicken. didn't look like a ritual though.

I've developed a nervous habit of shaking my hands out before I begin a climb. It started as a way to release the tension in my fingers and forearms from being a newbie. Now I do it all the time, waiting in line, in class. I get some odd looks but whatever.
