Ice is still great up in the Daks (I even led my first ice climb last weekend!)
So why run off to Wyoming so soon?

I'm headed to Little Falls this afternoon with some folks if anyone is looking to climb. It's a fairly casual group, so we'll probably just be top-roping on the Island.

Also, I'll be in the Gunks Sunday and Monday showing a friend the joys and terrors of multipitch leading. Say hi

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but...

Dammit if I don't miss Happiegirl. She put some life in this thread and the site in general. I just replied to a thread in Community about Velveeta cheese I'm so bored! :boring:

I just flew back from Joshua Tree....

.....and boy - my arms are tired!

bwaaa haaa ha hah ha......ahhhhhhhhhh....

Thank you for noticing my absense, CB.

Poor rc.com. I have been away because of the trip and also because, beforehand, the pages were so slow in loading I couldn't stand it. That, and the lameness of the Community threads just made it seem not worthwhile.

It befuddles me that people actually get worked up over other people's sexuality, and that seems to be the top topic here. Over on the other site I play on - we have a higher level of lowbrow humour.

And, I have also been working hard at answering emails from guys on the fitness-singles site. It is amazing how many of them are hoping I can teach them to climb. Today I even got an offer of "friendship and cammeraderie," and "a massage if so desired" (with a : ) emoticon following it) if I took a complete stranger on "as a trainee"...... and then he got pretty hostile when I told him I wasn't interested in meeting him.

So far I am batting zero with that site, even though there is a decent level of guys checking on my profile. I think I need lessons on the art of being a vixen.....

Anyway, these two things give me enough internet entertainment that rc is sort of like shopping at KMart, unfortunately. But, I am going to get back in the swing. I need to post for potential partners this season, too.

Why not??? I tried looking at the MUA and all I found was Charlie. Surley the internet is better. HAHA

Glad to see you're back Happie- hope you had a good time! After I get back from Vegas I think I might take the dive and subscribe to a month on that site as well. I periodically check the messages that I am receiving, but of course, I can't read them until I cough up the dough. I'm think I'll just do a month intiallly, hence I'm going to wait until after my trip...It would be silly to be away and not able to received emails for half of my month!

This thread needs a pick me up, no new post in a week!!!

Spring is practically here (I think for good!!) Here in CNY today it is a gorgeous 68 degree and sunny kind of day. I'm trying to concentrate on my final exams, but I can't help but feel the call of warm rock....

So how about it- post up your goals for this climbing season, destinations on your list, covetes routes, a grade you want to lead, a grade you just want to follow, a technique you want to master, etc...

Let's hear it!

(i'd start but well, its a really long story, but for personal reasons, I try to really restrict what I post in ths thread.)

Hey folks. This seems the most applicable place to say "Hi!", so... Hi?

I'm 27, living on Long Island. I climbed indoor at Ocean Rock for about a year, 3 or 4 times a week, back when I was 17. Fell out of the sport for a long while, and have jsut started climbing again. Thus far, I'm clocking in 3 trips a week to Island Rock to start getting back in shape. I used to be able to chill on 5.9 / 5.10... as it is now, I'm so out of shape I'm still weaning my way into 5.6 / 5.7s.

I've also become quite addicted to slacklining, thanks to the dudes at the gym who set one up.

I also dig hiking, camping, backpacking, and airsoft, and I work in IT- specifically, as a lead tech/supervisor for Optimum Online and Optimum Voice. Yes, I know you hate us. ;)

Anyways, just wanted to say hi, and hopefully I'll get to meet some of you folks in the near future!

Nassau county. Massapequa, to be precise, although I grew up in Suffolk and spent a year or two in Brooklyn as well.

I work odd hours, so last night after I got out of work at 1am I hit up a park down the street and set up my slackline- good way to kill 3 hours and shamble home at 4am. Now off to Island Rock to pump plastic until work!

Definitely looking forward to getting up to the Gunks as soon as I get a little more strength- as it is right now, I doubt I could do all that much, and I don't even have a harness yet- my shoes still fit, but I definitely outgrew that harness in the 10 or so years since I got it... >.<

I flirting with the idea od moving down to the Long Island area. Levittown-ish. If I can find a reasonably priced place to live! But I was curious as to what near there in terms of gyms, which is why I asked what county you're in.

Oh and I guess this thread is as good a place as any to share my excitement-- so last night I was bemoaning the price of gas to my bf and considering my options in terms of getting a part-time job to help finance the gas for trips to the Gunks this summer. But with my schol schedule, the most convenient time to work is on the weekends, when I want to be climbing!

So what I needed (and what my bf suggested) was someone to come on trips with me to help share the cost of gas. But where would I find such a person? I live in a very climber-unfriendly region. I can barely get people to go to the gym with me, let alone go all the way to Gunks. But then on a whim, I stopped in the coffee shop today and I ran into a guy I was tutoring this trimester. He asked me about when I leave for my climbing trip to Red Rocks and when the girl he was hanging with heard "climbing," her eyes let up. Turns out that she use to live in Colorado, has shoes and a harness but hasn't climbed in 6 years! And she wants to go climbing again! She asked for my phone number straight away! I'm so excited a new climbing partner!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice! Grats on the partner!

Levittown is all of 7 minutes from my house. Island Rock is about 15 minutes from my house- so figure it's about 10 from L-Town.

Island Rock is a great gym. Plenty to do and keep you occupied, and the staff/regulars are all extremely nice and welcoming- I've been going for 3 weeks, 3 times a day, and while I can't remember everyone's names, they're all totally chill and make you feel welcome. If you want to shoot down this way and climb there for a day, I'll be happy to belay ya. Just shout. I usually climb M/W/F from opening at 12 till around 3:45 when I have to leave for work. ;)

Goals? A season without injury....

I want to get up to Cannon to do the Whitney-Gilman. I like historic routes, and its been a few years since I've been to NH. If I get ambitious, I'd like to tackle The Fastest Gun at Poke-O as well.

This season will be predominantly spent at the Gunks though. I'll be doing research for my Masters there. I want to get over to Millbrook, Lost City, etc., since I usually just climb at the Trapps because its taller. I had a whole list of routes last spring, but haven't put much thought into it this season. Stirrup Trouble is a leftover that I fell off of last year (right near the top!) but I need my endurance back before I get on it again.
