The chances of Stephen Colbert being put to death are pretty slim.
In reply to: As Colbert walked from the podium, when it was over, the president and First Lady gave him quick nods, unsmiling, and handshakes, and left immediately. http://www.mediainfo.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002425363

In reply to: In reply to: Colbert, who spoke in the guise of his talk show character, who ostensibly supports the president strongly, urged the Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, “and reality has a well-known liberal bias.”   f---ing classic. I think Bush only took offense because his impersonator routine lacked the humor of Stephen Colbert. That, and he probably didn't get a lot of Colbert's jokes. That, or because Colbert completely abused Bush (and his administration), to his face, on television, in front of the entire White house press corp.

That was classic. I loved watching Bush's head get redder and redder as the "Audition tape" played.

Former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer in the Washington Post:
In reply to: As Tony Snow, the new White House press secretary, will soon discover, the briefing is no longer a briefing, it's a TV show. Gone are the days when this daily session was a serious affair, with mostly serious questions asked and mostly serious answers given. Instead, the public is now treated to a spectacle in which the media do their best to pressure the White House, regardless of which party is in power, into admitting that much of what the president is doing is wrong, and the White House pushes back. The two sides talk past each other, and the viewing public gets to watch a good fight. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

In reply to: That, or because Colbert completely abused Bush (and his administration), to his face, on television, in front of the entire White house press corp. Reminds me of something Truman said in response to "Give em hell, Harry." Truman's response was something like, "I don't have to give them hell. I just tell the truth, and they think it's hell."

In reply to: How can you not like colbert? politicians just need to lighten up. How can I not like him? For one, he's not very funny. Secondly, he's not very bright... In one fell swoop, he managed to portray Bush as stupid, incompetent, and Machiavellian. The duality of portraying him as stupid AND as evil genius escaped Colbert. Add in jokes about 9-11 and I'm just not impressed.

How so? This is traditionally a lighthearted affair, where the President makes fun of himself for the amusement of the press. Colbert inappropriately used his time to abuse the President. Not too long ago, it was commonly accepted that "there is a time and a place for everything". Now it seems a lot of people think it's perfectly fine to behave like an ass, in any setting... as long as you dislike the target.

Things change. Plus, who's bright idea was it to book Colbert in the first place? That's like having Charleton Heston as the key note speaker at a gun ban seminar.

In reply to: In reply to: Things change. Outstanding rationale. I like to think so. What about my comment about having Colbert in the first place? You think that was a brain fart on their behalf? Or maybe the one in charge of selecting the entertainment knew what they were doing afterall.
