Freelance graphic designer. I love my job. Keeps me busy but it's great to have a flexible schedule. For now I don't have any climbing industry related clients, but hopefully someday.

I work for Starbucks, I play a game. I try to get uncaffeinated career-driven "I hate my job" communters, that have been standing in a line, at 6:00 am for 10 minutes, to laugh, or at least smile, its fun, and quite a challenge. dev

I've lived the dream for a while now... Ski patrol in winter, Outward Bound climbing and rafting instructor in summer... But I'm getting tired of struggling to get by and have been contemplating a career as a firefighter.

I write database driven web based applications. Just graduated last June but I already make more money than my parents so that pays for ropes, etc. :D I also get every other friday off so plenty of 3 day weekends. Did I mention there is a sweet crag about 15 minutes from my office?

I am an engineering project manager. Our group supports plants that destroy chemical weapons. We train, consult, and provide engineering solutions for chemical weapons destruction. I work 5 x 8 = 40 minimum......get the standard 19 days off a year, plus benefits........ "Plenty" of cash, not much time, sometimes I get to travel and "work in" some expeditions or climbs........I want to hit the lottery...................but, making the dreams come true little by little...........I boulder every other day...................

Teaching is the best job in the world. I teach middle school in International Sschool. Currently my student are expat leaving in CHina. Next year, they will be expats leaving in Okinawa Japan. A great Gig that allows me plenty of time to climb and take photos. Loads of travel.

Yet another teacher. 13 wks off a year - 7 over our summer. This year i'm heading down to New Zealand for 5 of those 7 wks to have a few adventures! Finish at 2.40 - often fit in an hour or so at the gym before i have to pick my son up. At least one day of the weekend devoted to climbing and a couple of evenings a week after the boy goes to bed - god love housemates who babysit! Only problem with teaching is the programming and marking but i try and sneak that in at school rather than give up my spare time. Pay is pretty good - every payday i add to my climbing collection! Life is good.

I work as a Fault Protection engineer on NASA spacecraft. I helped do this, and this and this in the last 5 years. Not as much time to do stuff like climbing as I would like (I did take a rather lengthy hiatus from everything but engineering to focus on getting where I am), but I do rather love my job.

I am a high end international custom home builder. My homes begin in the 2 million dollar range for starters states side, and the sky is the limit other than how deep is the clients pockets. Not bragging but, if you've got the money - we can build it, what ever it is. Bluntly it is a passion that I love, while it can at times limits the time I like to spend in the back country climbing. Then again it helps with affording the gear for these trips.

I'm a financial planner. Basically, if I want to take off time all I have to do is clear out meetings with clients and such. I get to make my own schedule (mostly) and it makes climbing life/training easier to manage. No having to plan vacation time six months in advance for a boss. I get to help people with something they need really badly, too, so I can actually sleep at night. Now all I have to do is erect some mountains in the flat midwest here...

Logistical officer in the military. The pay is great; full medical and dental and all the ancillary jazz as well. There is just the issue of 60-hour weeks, living in exotic locales like Kansas and Louisiana, and that whole Global War On Terrorism thing (Please refrain from voicing to me your politics; this is not the forum for that...) It's been a good run; the military has been great to me, but it's time to move on and put my degree in Environmental Science to good use. Oh, and climb more :P Regards, Edd

I'm working at Chinaclimb, in Yangshuo / China. They guide western school kids from International schools in Shanghai, Beijing, Hongkong. Great Job, it's a lot of fun with the kids and all the other climbers and it's only 5-6 days of work a month (the rest days:D)

Wilderness Ranger - Sierra National Forest Your standard 9 to 5, (nine on five off) located smack dab in the middle of California. Head office 72 miles south of the Valley... But that only lasts until October, then I'm bumming in Yosemite and Bishop for the next two months. Then its back to: Software Engineer - Blacksburg, VA Office job, but with a good 15 days vacation. It pays, as other cubicle rats have noted, but the best part is location. Two hours south of the NRG, three hours north of Boone, with Rumbling Bald, HP40, LRC, and RRG all within weekend distance. Gotta love the Blue Ridge.
