Folks, I would appreciate a bit of advice please. I am from UK and am planning a two week rock climbing holiday in the USA. I would like your thoughts on the best itinerary for a two week trip, that maximises variety without spending many hours and lots of money travelling around. I was thinking that in two weeks we could probably visit 3 or 4 different areas max. We would have a hire car, and climb both trad and sport, but not big walls (not too many of them in the UK!) Would also like to know best time of the year to visit too.

Many thanks

Andy

Then there is New England, with Cannon, Whitehorse, Cathedral, Rumney, Gunks, Acadia and a lot more then I can mention. In the Whites, there are two weeks of climbing all within an hours drive of each other. Being this time of year, it'll be cooler up North.

summer sucks, fall is prime. plan your trip for fall, then hit red rocks, j-tree, owens river gorge, bishop bouldering, and the hot springs around mammoth. i'd fly into vegas, cruise to the bishop area, then wing on down to josh, then back over to vegas and red rocks.

Colorado. BoulderCanyon, Eldorado canyon , RMNP, Rifle, many more. You can probaly get a non stop from London to Denver.
Plenty of options for 2 weeks.
No matter what the weather, you can find some great climbing.
Utah is great, too.

Completely blow off the East and Southeast. They have some great stuff, but potential weather problems, long distances between wothwhile crags and presence of a lot off substandard fare mean cross it off.

Rocky Mt states, the Southwest or the West are your three alternatives, depending on what time of year you plan of your visit.

Summer time could include a Colorado - Wyoming and perhaps SD circuit. Lots of spectacular stuff and variety. RMNP, Eldo (can be hot in summer), Rifle, Devils Tower, Needles, Vedauvoo would give lots of variety.

Early Fall would be a good time to visit Utah and the Southwest. Sport, trad, desert cracks, etc.

Summer (july to Sept) in the West could include Needles, High Sierra/Eastside/ Toulumne Meadows and even a stint in the Ditch.

Fall could include the Josh, Red Rocks, Eastside and possibly some of the above.
