I try to keep away from people when I smoke so they don't get pissed. Too many people get offended these days. However the fact is were outside. If you walk over near me then you can keep moving.

My favorite is when someone yells at me for butts on the ground and I pull all mine out of my pocket and show them they aren't mine. Then I ask them if they picked them up? Most of the time people didn't. It's easier to yell than it is to just do something about it.

Yes. Difficult climbs are athletic, and the climber needs to breath. Don't light up if it means that the climber is going to have to inhale your smoke.

I agree, I smoke, usually not at the crag though. I make sure to be well away from (and downwind) from anybody that might take offense to it (anybody I don't know included). I think it's simply a common courtesy. Also, be sure there is a trash can or the likes nearby, filters don't ever seem to decompose and that looks nasty at the rocks. Just be courteous to others by avoiding them while smoking and take your butt with you when you leave.

I climb with people that smoke but they keep it away from me.

The thing i do get offended by is when smokers throw there butts on the ground like someone is going to clean them up for them. It makes me sad to think that someone can have such little respect for the environment and such little care to keep nature clean for everyone else.

The fact is, people smoke. And yes, there are climbers that smoke. All I ask is that smokers take out their own butts. If I don't like the smoke I can move away from the smoker. They have just as much right at the crag as anyone else.

Yes. I get offended whenever someone smokes around me - at least close enough that I can smell it. I hate cigarette smoke.

My 2 cents,

J

To tell you the truth, cigarettes piss me off. I use to smoke so I guess I can't get that mad. But when that stream of instant headache flows in my direction, don't expect me to respond in a positive manner!!

If someone lights up 100 yards from me, I can smell it! YUK...I just try to get out of the way, cuz I'm hella allergic to cig smoke, plus, the person smoking has every right to smoke where they want, so I don't bitch moan whine or complain...If it's the other kinda smoke, then thats an ENTIRELY different story however...

My three cents

I don't care if someone smokes at the crag, but don't leave the butts laying all over.

Thanks,

I don't care if people smoke at the crag, but I do appreciate two things:
1) Consider the people climbing around you
2) Don't stand right over my rope and light up. (Some guy did that to me once)

I am a smoker. BUTTS on the ground are just as bad as all those tape balls.
I have a marked BUTT pocket in my pack. When I notice others smoking around me I always point out to use the BUTT packet. The magic thing is these damm roaches tend to find their way into the BUTT pocket. Smoking cigs is one thing...save it for the campground.
Just last week I was about 12' above my last placement, a small nut, and looking at a ledge fall. I musta backed off to a rest kneebar 4 times before I had the guts to attempt the crux, I stuck a cig in my mouth, gave an extra tug on the small nut, lit the cig and sent it. Funny how the mind works ehh???
