In reply to: In reply to: Okay, some uptite prick flung a turd at my previous post, which I thought was in good fun. previously posted: In reply to: I don't have a rack because I'm a guy, but my wife has one and I tweek it every chance I get just to make sure they're, I mean it, is still in good order. I'd second that, but she hasn't given me a chance yet! When/If we finally meet to do some climbing, we're using your rack! Hey sty, good to see that people still have a sense of humor around here. Carefull though, you might get an uptight-prick-turd flung your way now. Anyway, I'm sure if you asked her nicely she'd let you. If, you're ever out my way, we'll use my rack 8^) Note: I just noticed that the turd has disappeared. Thanks Turd Remover...whoever you are. *swoon*

One thing I would say about racking nuts: you may want to mix the sizes up on two biners, ie don't put all bigger sizes on one and smaller on another. If you accidently drop one of the nut biners, you will still have a decent selection that way. Also gives you something that will usually fit if you grab either biner in a sketchy spot.

In reply to: ....personally I hate gear slings.... it gets in the way and detracts from the freedom of movement and enjoyment that I get out of climbing. I once felt that way. That FUCKING gear sling was always in the way! Then I learned to tolerate it and it and haven't looked back. Normally I just put my cams on the sling and rack nuts and draws on my harness. I have done routes where I've had to rack everything on a sling because having anything on the harness would be in the way.

Yeah, I totally see what you mean, however I haven't converted to the dark side, even after all these years. I still hate using gear slings, but as you said, Nate, the best times are when you really need your harness free. Or even when you need more gear than your harness can physically carry. I've used gear slings for routes with a lot of chimney work or when aiding, otherwise I'm in a world of frustration with them.

In reply to: ..., however I haven't converted to the dark side, even after all these years..... Oh I started using a gear sling long before going to the darkside. Actually if I'm just carrying screws and runners I normally just harness rack. If I take rock gear I usually put that on a sling though.

In reply to: So call me anal retentive, but I deffinately have a system for racking, and it's always on the harness... [snip] ...I don't like having gear in between me and the rock... esp. when I'm feeling weak, scared, and pumped. [snip] that damn chimney. :( That awkward, horrible chimney. :x I hesitate to point out the obvious, but, well, at the risk of getting flamed, here goes: With your gear on a shoulder sling, you can hang the entire rack below your feet on a double runner when climbing chimneys. Often makes the chimney at least a couple grades easier. That is why I would never climb with gear racked on my harness in a chimney. :) A sweet, comfortable chimney. :D Brutus of Wyde

Plane tickets last I checked were pretty expensive.
In reply to: I would never climb with gear racked on my harness in a chimney. Me neither. Climbing a chimney with gear racked on a harness is asking for trouble.

to go back on topic, pretty much every lead. But to digress; Racking on a sling makes the rack visible, and avoids that wet diaper feeling. Brutus makes a good point about chimbleys, and there are also the pitches where you need to move the rack from side to side, try doing that with the sport rack method.
