I am planning a trip to JTree and wander which guide book I should buy. I only do Sports up to 5.10d and have no gear other than a set of quick draws. Is Jtree the right place for me? Is it warm enough to Climb begin of December? If not can you recommend a place other than redrock to climb around this time ? thanks, Andy

Joshua Tree is not the most sport friendly place. There are some sport routes out here, but they are not all that close together. Try New Jack City. About 1 1/2 hours away from Josh. Perfect for December.

Thanks for the tip. There is lots of talk about a guide book for this area, any updates on that topic?

I think the NJC info is in the Southern California Sport Climbing (3rd edition), by Troy Mayr.

see here: http://www.fixeusa.com/book.htm

If you get an earlier edition, I don't think it has the info.

Queen Creek's got a ton of sport climbing on (mostly?) good bolts. The rock there isn't the friendliest though. It tends to be sharp and holds have a knack for coming off.

It's starting to get cold there, but it's not bad when you can get in the sun. The Mine Area and the Pond might be areas there to check out.
