Getting robbed at an ATM, does this work??

So a co-worker forwarded this email to me today and am curious if this is true and if it actually works. The email says...

In reply to:
PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM
machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse.

For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The
ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you
placed in the machine.

The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to
the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it
is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

Please pass this along to everyone possible.

Anyone know if it actually works or is it just going to make the robber really pissed off that you can't remember your pin number correctly to get him your cash?

I seriously doubt it. Sounds like more web spread hype. Maybe certain machines do, or will do at some point. But I really doubt they do now, nor would they without telling you first. Too many issues with that.

I don't think ATM's require your pin to be non-anagrammatic. Another issue. Not to mention drunkenness and pure stupidity - even at a small percentage with the amount of ATM use daily, someone would put it in backwards on accident.

Yeah nice try wjca. Actually you get arrested because you use the money to buy hookers. I keep telling you, don't use the ATM at the donut store...
