this may be way off, but has anyone had problems flying with their chalk bags. i'd rather not have homland security tearing up my lugage or wasting my time thinking chalk is coke or anthrax. specicly i'm flying from Lexington, Ky to London via Chicago, and i've heard they are being super strict now on flights to/from the UK.

No. Although the security guy looking at the screen took a double look.

I've flown many times (maybe 10) with my harness, ATC, chalk, daisy and a few biners (all as carry-on). I've never had a problem. I've also flown with my entire rack twice. Once I got a funny look from security during the x-ray of my carry-on bag. I smiled; she smiled; that was it. All flights have been in the U.S. though. I don't have any experience with international, but flying out of ORD they don't know where you're going when they x-ray your carry-on bag anyway. Someone else here suggested this, and I always do it now: carry a recent copy of a clmbing magazine. If the security has questions, you can show them advertisements explaining what all that "funny looking" metal stuff is for.

I take my shoes and chalkbag minimum on every trip I do (at least 30 flights/year). Most recent was to New Zealand - never had a problem or even a question.
