My recommendations would be: If in the Seattle area, check out Mac 'n Jacks. It is only sold on tap in local bars, and is wonderful. It is a strange beer - they call it an African ale, but it is certainly nothing like any native African beers. Its more like an overhopped ESB - think rich complex malt bill, but hopped to near IPA levels. Bigger mouthfeel than any IPA i've had, but not as alcoholic. I love beers like this that transcend style guidelines. Full Sail Boardhead barley wine. I love that they print the vintage prominently on the bottle - I try to keep some around from many different years, and then do vertical tastings of them. Beers in the 3-4 year old age seems to be the best to my palate - before that they taste really hot to me, but the very high alcohol mellows and blends after a few years on aging. Wonderful rich complex malt, understated hops, huge body and alcoholic warmth. My favorite barley wine, and I am a big fan of the style. Bridgeport IPA. Nothing earth shattering about it, but it is just by far my favorite beer to sit and drink. Very clean nice IPA, well balanced hops and alcohol.

brewing your own is a great way to go. i could add this beer to the list of beers to try if you are in utah: atg200's chocolate porter: complex malt character with no acrid roasted flavors often found in porters. color comes from mostly chocolate and special b malt with some english dark crystal - no black or roasted malts at all. huge mouthfeel with subtle flavor from hops. 1.055 OG, 45 IBU

Just had Andersen Valley - Abby style double. Very nice belgian style ale. Also have been drinking a bit of Alaskan amber.
