I've never really like comps personally....just doesn't seem to mix with what I try to get out of climbing.

dbrayack wrote: I CAN FINALLY DISCLOSE THIS: THE GRAND PRIZE THIS YEAR FOR THE CLIMBING COMPETITION AT THE NRG RENDEZVOUS IS A FULL YEAR SPONSORSHIP FROM LA SPORTIVA! YAH! -DAN sorry, this isn't a 100% clear to me yet. Bouldering? Men's Sport? Women's Sport? Men's Trad? Women's Trad? I assume Men's sport climbing, but you never know. Maybe the women folk will get equal recognition too. Personally, I won't be able to redpoint anything over 5.2. So, where do you guys think I should go to watch some of these hard men send some comp winning climbs? Real life has got to be better then movies. eh, maybe I will just forget about the competition this year and spend the day training for next year. :)

You know, I've been tossing around a "RC.com" people gathering...like pick a place and time and all get together and meet each other.

Sunday morning 4 AM at the main tent -late night people would still be up -early risers could meet prior to getting on the rock -we would be the first in line for morning activities -the main tent would be open (because wtf is anyone up at 4 AM for?) ok, in seriousness: I would probably attend, but I remember the weekend being pretty packed. I don't know how you would fit it in. Late friday in competition to the slideshow would probably be good, but then we would miss part of the slideshow.

Yah, I'm tossing it around, but seriously don't know if I could make it you know...I'm going to be running around like a nut the whole time. Perhaps around breakfast sunday, before the clinics would be good? We could all eat pancakes together or something.

Will The fact you get a t-shirt and get to eat first is incentive too! It's not just a T-shirt. It's a full on Mountain Hardwear HyperDry T, retail value $28. That bastard Brayack let the Spotiva cat out of the bag, but here's more. Several new playas have signed to do stuff. Podclimber is likely coming out to cover the whole event. MH is sending Mica Dash for slide shows, etc. Leave No Trace will be doing clinics. And here's the doozy... The American Alpine Club is sending Jim Donini and Brittany Griffith to promote the AAC's upcoming new climbing ranch. Guess where it's gonna be located? That's right, kids. New. River. Gorge. More news to come when we get it! Folks I want to give everybody a heads up. It looks as though there will be a larger police presence at this year's Rendezvous. Some things to keep in mind to stay out of trouble: 1. If you're drinking, please please please do not drive. 2. Carpool! Use designated drivers! 3. Or just bring what you need for the night and stay at the Rendezvous! 4. All dogs have to be leashed. 5. Parking is always scarce at the NRR, so again, carpool, arrive early, plan on staying the night or at least staying until you're done for the evening. Once you leave each night, it will be very difficult to find another parking space. 6. We ran out of beer at around 11PM last year. Hopefully, that won't happen again, but if you want to be prepared, be aware that glass containers are not allowed on Park property. PBR cans? No problemo. 7. Lastly, remember that what you do reflects on all of us. Let's not give them a reason to think even more police are necessary!

Oh shit! I almost forgot. Crash pad sumo wrestling MIGHT undergo a major expansion this year. If it does, said expansion MIGHT include a climbing-celebrity death match. Seriously. Anybody wanna see Katie Brown lay Mal Daly down for the count? (Love you, Mal! Wendy says hey and we can't wait to see you back in West By-God.)

what's a "climbing ranch"? ... will - even if you don't get first place (again) this year, i bet you'll score enough cash to pay rent for two months like last year you guys need to stop advertising the comps so much, i want to win something and i'm not going to win advanced bouldering with all my awesome v0- sends if you guys keep telling everyone!

kasharp wrote: what's a "climbing ranch"? ... will - even if you don't get first place (again) this year, i bet you'll score enough cash to pay rent for two months like last year That would be fine by me, although mucho training would be required. But, I'd be even more psyched if the prizes draw in a ton of people - there were some strong damn trad climbers in the gorge last year, but most of them didn't compete. A full on battle royal of the best the NRR can attract would be sweet! Although it would also probably mean I'd get my ass beat. And ditto on the 'climbers ranch'. Will PS Katie, what're you up to these days? I'll be at the New this weekend if you're looking to climb.

In the past years, we've had such a dismal turnout for all the women's competitions, its difficult to justify a said (freaking awesome) prize for the women.
In reply to: I'm bringing the fella down, as well, introducing him to the glories of the new river gorge and desertapalooza. Wait, you're dating some dude now? -Danno

There's probably not any house space left, but there's a ton of covered porch space at the new house (which I hope to occupy by then), and four acres to camp on. Can't wait to show Paul what REAL sandstone is like. Climbers' ranch? http://www.americanalpineclub.org/pages/page/90
