Hey, I'm planning on getting a new headlamp before I leave for the summer, cause mine is about uselessly dim. I saw the petzl tikka 'adapt' today and was wondering if anyone has actually used it and its somewhat 'gimmicky/usefull?' features? Looks like it comes with a sticky clip that sticks to your helmet so you dont have to deal with the headlamp strap and such. anyone actually used that? Or should I just get somethin more 'normal'. (myo xp, tikka xp..)

I've never used the suction cup lamps. I was always worried that I'd hit it on a rock and it would go sailing. Besides, the strap seems much more versatile (unless you plan on only using your lamp while wearing your helmet). I can only speak firsthand for the Petzl tikka XP, and it is legit.

I dont know about the new adapt, but the myo xp is Amazing! Its a bit bigger, but also a bit brighter than the tikka xp. both solid lamps and The myo xp has been my choice headlamp for the unexpected (and expected) nitght climbing missions since i bought it.

second on the myo xp, its incredibly bright and lasts a long time, one thing i recently became aware of though is that you cannot use the lithium AA's (well, not recommended by Petzl anyway, it'll burn up the led's) with those my lamp seemed to last forever. i think you can with some of their other models, it might be worth looking into and trust me it makes a big difference, especially if you're out in the cold. i wouldn't trust anything suction cupping to my helmet, it would suck to have that baby pop off halfway up a climb.

one thing to note...i had some loose wires that caused the lamp to sometimes go out, if you jiggled it around it would come back on, i sent it into petzl, replaced no charge, they said they hadn't had any other problems with the lamp. i got the belt upgrade for 5 bucks more, which is sweet for mountaineering/ice climbing/cold, but can be a pain for summertime shirtless bushwhacking, the wires get caught on trees, ect. my 2 cents

I prefer the Tikka XP. Not quite as monsterishly bright as the Myo XP, but it also doesn't have an external battery pack and *very* vulnerable wire leading from said battery pack to the light. The Tikka is all one package, batteries and light, in the same water resistant housing. Best balance between bright bright lighting and durability on the market.

i have a myo xp, the one all on the headband not the myobelt. i love it, it's not too heavy and the rear batter pack feels much lighter than the tikka's betteries that are in the front. and it's damned bright for the size imo. i keep it in a little pouch so it's right there in case i need it. been through downpours to snow and hasn't let me down.

I have both the Tactikka XP Adapt and the Myo XP. I like the adapt system for the Tactikka XP, (same headlamp as the Tikka XP, just with different colored lenses) because of the glue on helmet adapter. The Myo XP is brighter, but bulkier. Get both!
