I've done a couple of aid pitches with it as well - it is basically better than a grigri for soloing in general.

Wren Industries, who make the Silent Partner, recommend a prusik loop for supporting the weight of the rope. They suggest shoe laces as these will break under the load of a fall.

Checkout these supertopo threads about soloing and soloing on big walls. The pics are gone, but the advice is great. Pay attention to "Pass the Pitons Pete" as he's done tons of aid soloing.
