Hello from Vancouver, Canada. Will be in Vegas from Dec 24-30 with family. However, if I can find a partner, I would like to leave 3-4 days earlier to get some climbing in at Red Rocks. Never been there before. Is it too cold to climb then? Can I catch a bus straight from the airport to Red Rocks (I'm on the cheap)? Where can I get fuel for my stove down there?Combustible fuel is obviously not allowed on airplanes. Alternatively, can anyone recommend a cheap place to live? Would love to be able to get this organized.

My friends and I will be roadtrippin' to Red Rocks and possibly Bishop Dec 26 to Jan 5. I'm told it's a 30 hour drive so we probably only have from the 28th to the 3rd to climb. Right now there are 4 or 5 of us, and no detailed trip plans. I'll post more details as they are settled. PM or email me and let's see what we can arrange. W

It looks like it's snowing in RR right now :( I live in Seattle and thinking of heading down there around 20 - 29, but if weather aren't gonna be good, I might have to think it over... Does anyone have some clue on condition around RR? What's a good alternative???

hey everyone. Okay, so here's the scoop on Red Rocks for the next week or so. Yesterday & early today it rained (& snowed at higher elevations). There's beautiful white stuff on top of the Rainbow Wall. It should be nice for the next couple days. On Friday the 20th it may rain again, and then a cloudy weekend, followed by more possible rain on Monday the 23rd. Remember, no climbing on Sandstone at least 24 hours after a rain. Holds break, climbers sad. I dunno what the weather will do the week of Christmas, but I will keep this forum posted on details. We're gonna try to climb something small on Sunday, but with the weather the way it is, I would not recommend getting up on anything big...no way of knowing what Mother Nature has in store for us...

Oh, and it's in the high 40's, low 50's right now, sometimes the mid 50's. if it's sunny, it's beautiful climbing weather. Otherwise, just wear a sweater, beanie, and long pants. You should be fine.

Additional advice: The weather is highly variable at RR so don't get too spooked if one particular day is bad. The next might be fine. If you climb on the sport routes at the 1st and 2nd pullouts, even if the general temperature is chilly, it can be more than 10 degrees warmer at the climb, since many routes face the sun e.g. Magic Bus, Dog Wall, Tuna, Ultraman Wall, Gallery,... unfortunately, those walls also catch lots of rain! I've been climbing at RR for most of the past 4 months and plan to be around until Jan.22. Anyone wanting a partner for warm, sunny routes, please PM me! I know most of the walls in the 1st 2 pullouts and am happy to show other climbers around. I'll follow up to hard 5.10s and am happy doing other days with lots of mileage on 5.7-5.9s BTW, hotels in Vegas are as low as $20 per night right now!
