Russman, Jeez you must have a large back yard! I hope I can grab a spot for my tent. Pretty cool of you and your wife to put this on and will gladly help out with $10. As I said as well looking to carpool from the seattle area, I get off work Friday around 7. I drive the metro route 41 from seattle to Northgate and was thinking, I wonder if they would loan me there bus for the weekend, it's one of those double buses and seats a ton of people. OK OK just a thought hehe. Cheers lee

Lee Kinda funny that you ask how big our backyard is. The more ppl that chime in the smaller it gets But I think it will be cool. I know that we just won't be able to set up 20 individual tents...so I hope all can agree on some shared sleeping areas. We also have the garage (where our climibng wall is) the only prob is that it is concrete floor. I have a crashpad, if others want to brign theirs and sleep in there...that opens up a whole bunch more room. Still a month off and I know everyone can't wait. We are looking forward to it also.

I'm possibly interested in going. I don't know anybody here and I was just wondering if everyone that's going are college students... er... youngins? I get the feeling I'm a bit further along in years than this group and likely would not feel comfortable. Also, if I did go, I'd be camping at the rocks.

Cat, As Jared/jhudrup said many of us are advanced in years (being as how we are climbers, grown ups would be a stretch), this is not a frat party,or a boy/girlscout outing. We are adults, and we expect those who are not, and those who are, to use their best manners. We would be glad to have you meet up with us as you can, and sleep where you like. Hopefully in the next 4 or 5 weeks you can meet up with some of us on an idividual basis, and have some friends already when you go next month! Jeff

Cat and Jules: I am probably the oldest person planning to be there, IMHO. I've got a decade on you both, but as I always tell my students, "You can only be young once, but you can be immature your life!" We will have lots of fun kicking back and climbing and hanging out because we won't be...working at our jobs. Mick

Yes ma'am you can, and I would be glad to answer you... We decided on those dates because we thought of our gathering here in Washington later than those who are putting on gatherings elsewhere in the country. And it was pretty much the only hole in the schedule that isn't filled in already for some of our hardcore travelers, who we did not want to do this without. The reason Russman and I decided on having it at Frenchmans Coulee is that it has sport climbing of a wide variety of grades, and some trad. All in a fairly small easy to navigate climbing area, with good access, not too far from our nieghbors like you, without being too far from those of us coming from wetter places either. If I can answer anymore of your questions please let me know. You know about the City of Rocks Gathering don't you? Jeff

Well, maybe I can bring along a friend or two. Another great tip, boil some water and put it in a nalgene bottle. Throw it in the bottom of your sleeping bag and viola, you have a radiant heat source that will cook you right out of your sleeping bag.

It looks like I'll be able to make it up there for the weekend. I'll be coming up from Boise. I might try and head over to Smith Rocks the week before if anyone is interested? Looks like most are ok with the backyard thing. I'll probably just sleep in my truck, easier than setting up a tent. Can't wait!!

Adding a note here...N8 and my wife and I went out yesterday and I will say that the wind was blowing constantly at a brisk 20+ mph ALL DAY. Be ready. We will wnat plenty of water and plenty of warm clothes. We had fun, but that wind will take it out of you....so think of that too. Man was is dusty and dirty all day , but we were outside so that was GREAT.

I'm a bit of a newbie to the board, but have been climbing for the past eight or so years on and off. I got a small rack (missing hexes) with four cams and a relatively large ice chest. I climb around 5.10 on bolts and about 5.8 on trad. My girlfriend (belayer) and I think this would be a great way to hang out with some other climbers from the Seattle area.
