Its quite a way to go, but the climbing as good as you'll find! I recommend everyone checks out TASMANIA!!! Click http://www.tassie.net.au/~jnermut/Climbing.htm for some more info. I have met many world travelling climbers there - and they have all been amazed, and planning their return as soon as they left! Fishy.

a place in Western Australia that dcclimbing didnt mention is Kalbarri, cool sea cliffs. As for the sexy Western Australian women, yep they are certainly very fine and plentiful.

For great trad climbing my favorites are: 1) The Gunks in New York. USA 2) Froggat in the Peak, UK For bouldering: Hueco Tanks, TX, USA (or Republic of Texas, depends on who you talk to) For sport--you're on your own. Curt

Let's not forget NH, some of the oldest climbing destinations in the US: - Rumney (425 sport routes at your fingertips) - Cannon (Only ridge climb in the East, 500 ft wall) - old man in the mtn. - Cathedral & Whitehorse (two 400 ft. granite blocks in the middle of a city) Each of these areas are within 1 hr of each other. Plus you have the white mountains to camp, bike, raft, and the lakes region to waterski, fish, sail, and the ocean to surf, scuba, etc. -greg

thanks people. what an awesome list. i am going to have to take off more time than i thought. like the rest of my life. anyone know any rich aunts that are willing to sponsor a keen climber? :D i was a little distressed to see south africa dissed a bit. but then i thought about my local crags and realised that there are no queues for climbs, the quality of rock is superb and there are a million climbs in close proximity and wondered if i wanted the masses of people at the crags that would come with less dissing. so diss away, and leave south africa for the hard core people. africa is not for sissies! okay dont get me wrong. come to south africa. the climbing is awesome. so keep the list coming. i am going to keep track and may see you on the rock. but i will have to add montagu in cape town and waterval boven in gauteng in south africa and will go out on a limb to say that these spots will rival any spot in the world.

Bumpity bump bump. Planning on hitting Asia/Australia/New Zealand area for a year. Is Yangshuo China as good as the pictures? Any new areas that I would hit? I'd like to do some DWS in Thailand/Vietnam. Which is the best for this? Josh

For Africa, you might want to check this out: http://www.climbhotrock.com/ I haven't traveled with them, so I can't vouch for 'em. Maybe someone else has and can give more info... Have fun!

I spent a couple of weeks climbing in Yangshou two years ago. The scenery and the landscape are absolutely fantastic. The climbing however is IMHO quite far away from being world-class. As you intend to travel and climb in Australasia for a year, you should not miss the place.

In Western Australia(the biggest state in size not pop) Margret River Albany - sea cliffs Definately worth a visit although you'll need to fly. Great weather and hot girls(more girls than guys too) Yeah we do have lots of hot women here in Perth. But yeah you forgot Kalbarri. Some fucking awesome climbs there...maybe even the best in the state.

I am going to be partial and suggest how about trying India. Not that I am getting into a comparision game... India could be exploratory kind of climbing in places. Plenty of rock still unclimbed. But a small but dedicated climbing community. There are a few on this forum who could help you plan the logisitics for India.

It is all about being partial. come to Brazil!! it is huge, has lots of beautiful climbing. come to Rio, great city, great people and tons of rock climbing of ALL styles. or if you like more remote locations, do a search on chapada diamantina but, ahhh, this thread is 3 years old, it was revived buy a guy asking specifically about thai and vietnan , yeah, pointless advice about, Brazil then, I suppose...

Hueco is a pain in the ass, pile in the middle of nowhere. Certainly the bouldering is top three, but for routes......
